I think San Fran WILL win the NFC West. A lot of people seem charged up about St Louis and Seattle, but I don't think either of them are great.

I like the Seahawkks O-line, but I'm not sold on Alexander or Hasselbeck. Kerney is overrated b/c a lot of press guys really like him as a person (same could be said for WR Deion Branch), and Tatupu is undersized. Their secondary is suspect too.

As for St Louis, people are all over them, but no one seems to realize that as good as Stephen Jackson is getting - he doesn't do for Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce what Faulk did for those guys. Plus, those two guys are getting old. Bulger is not worth the money the Rams gave him. The whole left side of their line is questionable for injuries. The defense was poor last year and they didn't do anything to shore it up.

SF already beat Seattle twice last year, with another year under the belt for Alex Smith, the addition of Darrell Jackson from Seattle, and Frank Gore reaching his pinnacle, they have a good shot at beating them twice again this year. They are one of the few NFC teams playing a legit 3-4, and even though I'm not in love with the down linemen; Lawson and Smith are very solid LBs and Willis is a good addition inside. I hope they realy aren't counting on Tully Banta-Cain for much becuase he is not even a good special teamer.

If the O-line performs and the secondary (especially Clements) can meet expectations, look for an 11-5 season, as follows:
Week 1 - W vs. Arizona, the Cards will finish right with or ahead of the NFC West pack and challenge for the Wild Card, but they'll lose this one.
Week 2 - W @ STL.
Week 3 - W @ Pittsburgh, don't believe yesterday's hype, the Steelers have some of the league's most overrated players and their Rook HC is going to have a looooong year.
Week 4 - W vs. Seattle.
Week 5 - W vs. Baltimore.
Week 6 - Bye.
Week 7 - L @ NYG, I might trade this loss for one in the division, b/c the Giants are a joke.
Week 8 - L vs. New Orleans, the Saints will be pumping on all cylinders by then, look for NO in the NFC title game. Week 9 - W @ Atlanta, Damn, dog!
Week 10 - W @ Seattle.
Week 11 - W vs. St Louis.
Week 12 - L @ Arizona.
Week 13 - L @ Carolina, I'd be surprised if Carolina wins 9 games, but this should be one of them.
Week 14 - W vs. Minnesota, I see the Vikes in the Wild Card.
Week 15 - L vs. Cincy, Even in the middle of a three week homestand, I don't think SF can edge (a healthy) Cincy team that will get 12+ wins.
Week 16 - W vs. Tampa Bay, sorry Gruden, no Bay Area homecoming party.
Week 17 - W @ Cleveland, will the Browns even be putting NFL players on the field by week 17...wait, did they even put NFL players on the field this week?

Yes, but that and a quarter will buy them a cup of coffee. Wait, it's 2007 so $2.89. The won't win the NFC. Even though the conference is pathetic, they still aren't as good as Chicago and Dallas, both of which will get slaughtered in the Super Bowl by either the Colts, Pats or Chargers. AFC rules!

Do they have a chance? Yes. Everyone in the division has a chance.

Will they blow it? Possibly. I don't know if they'll win yet. Ask us tomorrow when the scores and stats are posted.

The guy above me is confident... too confident. Can't wait to see that "Rook HC" and his awesome team slaughter the Niners. The Steel Curtain is coming... Watch out!

Yeah they have a really good chance to kick some A S S this year. But they gotta get that defense playing better than in the pre-season, they were terrible, also they need a deep threat for Smith. They picked up a bunch of players, but it will take a little time for them to flow. I think next season is their break out year, this year they'll barely make the playoffs.

Sure they do. They don't even have to be good, all they have to do is suck less than the other teams in the nfc west.
