Its normal to have a big appetite because you are burning about 500-700 calories breastfeeding. Just try to make healthy choices! =) As for the cravings I still had them but mine changed from the cravings I had during pregnancy to milk and fig newtons while breastfeeding haha

Yes. Especially the big appetite. Your body needs more energy when you are breastfeeding, so you should be taking in more calories. You also need to drink lots of water. It's ok to eat more when breastfeeding, just avoid eating things that don't have any nutritional value.

Oh, yes. I think I ate more when I was breastfeeding than I did when pregnant, especially in the first few weeks of breastfeeding. My biggest craving was ice cream. You need to eat 500-800 more calories per day when breastfeeding...during pregnancy it is only 300 calories.

cravings didn't continue with me.

a big appetite is very normal with nursing because you're losing about 500 calories a day. nursing moms actually release a hormone that will "make them hungry" to replace some of those calories and nutrients that you're losing.

My friend said she never had outragous cravings BUT, she did crave more of what she already liked. My friend also said that when you breat feed the baby takes all the nutrients from your body when breast feeding so you feel hungry.....
