Should gays be allowed to be married. Be "allowed?" Should blacks be allowed to sit at the front of the bus? Both seem like inalieanable rights. I can`t believe that at this current day and age gay marriage is not legal. What`s the issue.....Really? I mean I would expect such rhetoric from religous fanactics, but in this country there is such thing as a seperation of church and state. Why is it then that legally gays are not allowed to join in the same inalienable rights as all of our straight citizens? What is the debate on captial hill? I know they are not citing bible passages.....Wtf is going on here? Really, are people that ignorant. This is not the 1940`s you think we would be passed this by now. And to anybody that presupposes that I have an agenda "Newsflash" I`m not gay. I don`t have any gay friends, tendencies, fanatasies, etc.... But I`am not ignorant. Why should gays not be afforded the same rights as me...you.....anybody?

Religion opposes equal rights for gay people. Let me rephrase that, American christian religion opposes equal rights. They have alot of political power by how they tell people to vote, and by political contributions. The republicans champion the issue to their voters, and act shocked that some democrates would let gay people get married.

The Supreme Court will dodge the issue for as long as it can, at least until the perfect unable to be dodged case comes along, and it will probably be based upon a civil union case, and be determine based upon equal protection. Calling it something other than marriage makes it inherently different, unequal, and denies a class of people the right to marry.

Also just like straight marriages there will be problems, like divorce, and child custody. Its important for straight people to realize that just like straight people, gay people fall in love, and they want to show their love and lifetime commitment to their partner by becoming married.

Also any person that argues allowing gay people to marry would open the door to animal/people marrying needs to realize bestiality is illegal, gay sex is legal. Marriage requires two consenting parties, an animal cannot consent, nor is an animal viewed to have fundamental rights as people do.
Also that the leap from gay marriage to animal marriage is not just a stretch it is ridiculous and is hateful, discriminatory, and offensive.

Also the same exact, open the door argument was used to try to prevent desegregation, voting rights for women, allowing interracial marriage, and other attempts to provide people with equal treatment.

It seems to be a matter of human nature and the need to feel superior to someone else, to have some designated group whose rights can legally be denied and who can be blamed for society's ills. Such motivations are not subject to rational argument or logic or empirical evidence.

I may be gay, but I don't have any desire to get married. However, I did have that urge when I was in my 20's. I can't help wondering how different my life would have been if that had actually been an acceptable option at that time.

I love the hypocrisy of straight society in condemning gays for a stereotypical hedonistic and promiscuous lifestyle, while feigning ignorance at it's own role in denying gays the option of a legal, committed relationship, and berating gays for not following society's "rules" while at the same time denying gays any of the benefits of that society.

Exactly. You've done an excellent job of hitting the proverbial nail on it's head. If the issue had been a colour one it would have been over and done with by now; but because it's sexual, it can be debated ad infinitum. This is also why Women's rights hasn't passed yet.
Inalienable rights indeed. Forgive me for this but as long as one is Christian, white and male one will have all the inalienable rights one could ever want.

The question is: Who cares? I would venture to guess the only people effected by this would be gays. If they want to be married THEN LET THEM! I'm not gay and have a smokin' hot wife, but if the guys across the street want to get married then let them. I'm sick of hearing bible this and bible that. You're right. If people believe the silly stories in there they have a lot more to worry about than "Bob" and "Ted" tying the knot.

I'm not gay either, but what is the big deal with gay marriage. It's legal for a young woman to marry an old man for his money...Anna Nicole Smith... It's okay for people to get married, divorced, and married 5 or 6 times...or more. I know a girl who was 16, got pregnant by 46yr. old. He went to jail, now a registered sex offender, BUT married the 16 yr. old after her parents let her become immancipated! Yea, sounds alot more logical than two people who really love each other...and happen to be the same sex...getting married.........???????????????????????????

It is discrimination to deny marriage based on gender.

The ignorant fundies will compare gay marriage to polygamy and bestiality because they are missing brain cells.

See BQuotes who proved my point. The buy-bull kills brain cells.
