I have a laptop Dell D600 and i has 256mb ram. I want to upgrage to the allowed limit of 1gb. They say i can go to 2gb but whatever. Some said that i should not get so much memory if i only have a 40gb hard drive. What to do?

Firstly the hard drive size has no bearing on RAM . Go to the following link, http://www.crucial.com/uk they can do an on line check which will determine which ram your motherboard supports. They will recommend the optimum amount. You can order on line and although they are not the cheapest it is worth paying for good ram. They guarantee compatibility with your motherboard and give an excellent warranty. They also give fitting instructions. I have used them many times and always been satisfied. Hope this helps.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that I recently upgraded my ram to the max of 2 gigs - I work with photos a lot so that makes sense for me to do that - if support says your laptop will support 2 gigs, goto that crucial site and find out exactly what kind to get - the wrong kind not only wont fit but if you get the wrong speed, it may not even turn on - hope this helps some

There is no connection between RAM and Hard Drive sizes.

If the unit can accept 2 GB as you claim, you can beef it up to 1 GB regardless of Hard Drive size

Ram has nothing to do with your hard drive size. 1 gig of ram is great for Windows XP, so get it...it will make your computer faster than 256 megs of ram.

Put the gig in. Hard drive has no bearing on your ram.
