I think that at this point the argument can be made that the Yankees are the best team in MLB. They have the best offense any team has had for the last decade. You have to agree on that. The offensive numbers are staggering. They have the best bench in the majors and this has been said by major sports analysts. The bullpen is vastly improved from three months ago and the rotation has also come together. I am not saying that the bullpen and rotation are better than anyone else's but with the offense they have it is more then enough. I think that too many people look at the Yanks poor start and are just saying that they got lucky in the second half. Personally, I think that this Yankees team, with the current roster would be able to win at least 105 regular season games. I don't mean this year. I mean like if they had started the year with this roster. Right now they have the best record since the all star break and are pretty much the team nobody wants to face in the post-season.

With a i-2-3 of Wang, Pettite, and Clemens backed by the Yanks offense, The Yanks look pretty scary coming into the post season. I know Clemens has not pitched really well but he has a ton of post-season experience. The offense has made a habit of beating the best starting pitchers in the A.L. In sweeping the Sox last series they beat the three best starting pitchers on the Sox staff. One of them the leading Cy Young contender. With the offense the Yankees have, the pitching does not need to be amazing. It just has to be quality pitching, and they have been showing that they have that.

I'm a Red Sox fan but I will be objective. Yankees? Red Sox? Angels? Mets? I don't know who THE best team is, but the Yanks are certainly one of the best. They are a team nobody wants to play in the playoffs. Their offense is the tops in baseball. From A-Rod to Jeter to Cano to Posada to Matsui and everyone else in the lineup, they are a dominant force. The pitching is o.k. in some cases like Wang, Pettitte, Clemens (though not what he used to be), and of course Rivera. Yes, I'm from Boston and a lifelong Red Sox fan, but I call things like I see them. There's no denying who the Yankees are, but it doesn't always matter who does what in the regular season, it's what you do in the playoffs, if you get there. After all, last years World Series Champion was the Cardinals, who won only 83 regular season games.

I would argue to say that the Yankees have a very potent offensive lineup. Regardless of their start, they have not had decent starting pitching all year. Clemens (I love the guy) is hurt now. Who do they turn too? Mussina? Pettite? How about the host of rookies they have like Hughes who have no post season experience? Their bullpen has been average at best. Offense will win you a lot of games, but pitching wins in the post season. Boston is very tough. Also very good offense and they have Beckett & Papolbon. I am NOT a Sox fan. I think you have to be afraid of the Indians with Sabathia, Carmona, Byrd and Westbrook. I also think that Lackey & Escobar are very tough with the Angels. Everyone is always afraid to play the Yankees in the playoffs. Arod cant carry them every game. What else can you attribute to them not being in first place? I am an Indians fan and I think Cleveland has the weakest of the 4 but they have also been very hot lately! If I was a betting man right now, I would say it is a toss up between Boston and the Angels to win the AL. I am not a Yankee hater, just trying to be objective.

You make me laugh. They have an average bullpen at best - and Clemens is not putting the fear in anyone right now.
105 wins - lets see them do that! They will not win 105 this year, with the roster they have. You don't mean this year - well, instead of some fantasy world - look at the reality of this years team. Do you watch Foxnews? Who are these "major sports analysts"?
If this pitching staff is good enough with the offense they have, why are they still trailing the Red Sox?
Lets see what A-Rod does during the postseason. Will it be more boo's? Will they even get there? Why do all three AL dvision leaders have better records than your "best team in the MLB" if they are so good?

As a Yankee fan (which I am), I agree with you, but as a baseball fan, I would say that the Yankees are only one of the best teams in baseball. Their lineup is absolutely incredible and undoubtedly one of the top 3 best lineups, if not the best lineup. They've gotten their pitching together, and it's amazing right now (Wang, Pettitte, Rivera, Kennedy, Hughes, Chamberlain, Clemens). The Yanks have a potential Cy Young award winner (Wang), and a potential MVP award winner (A-Rod who will definitely win it). They've been great during the second half of the season. I remember when the Yankees were 14 games behind the Red Sox, and so far behin in the Wild Card, and everybody was saying that they were done. They weren't, and they definitely aren't. They made such a huge comeback, and they've been amazing. Hopefully they'll win the World Series!

AROD AROD AROD!!!!! where would you be without his 140 RBIs!!!! Do you have some great athletes with dominant bats?? Yes!! However you guys bullpen is not that great and playing indians or angels in the post season or even the sox i think they blow it for you! Will Arod produce against Beckett or Sabathia (may be mispelled sorry indian fans) who knows but clearly the indians the sox the yanks and angels could all argumentively be the best teams in baseball! Just because you have a bigger payroll doesnt make you better! If it wasnt for Arods rbis and Wang having a terrific 18 win season you would be watching someone else in the post season!! Wang and Arod cant win all your games for you!!
ill argue your payroll all i want because i think the sox payroll was ridiculous this year and so are the yanks you think that its fair that arod almost makes more then tampas entire team?? no not really!! In fact its awesome to see teams like Clevland with a payroll of under 75,000,000 have such a great season!! So if you didnt read my comment i wasnt saying the sox are the best with there high *** payroll i also included clevland and the angels and the yanks as argumentively could be the best each team has a reason they are better then the other!!!

With due respect to the Yankees 2nd-half record and their current win streak, it's difficult to call a team with the 4th best record in their league the "best team in baseball". While I do give the team credit for coming back from a losing first-half to becoming (probably) a playoff team, I'd still reserve the title of "best team in baseball" to the team with the best record.
Of course, the playoffs are when the real proof of who's best will be made. The Yankees have an unfortunate tendency, over the last several years, of producing great regular-season numbers and then flubbing it in the playoffs. If they can reverse that this year, then they can prove their mettle.

Theres still 20 games of baseball yet and anything can happen in that time. Yes the Yankees are arguably the best team in the majors as of this moment but momentum is a crazy thing. One minute you have it and the next its gone. If the Yankees get in I'll be happy but the division belongs to the Redsox for now. But if we get in, I think we'll do some damage with Alex this time.

I have to agree. I don't think that even the short sighted Red Sox fans can turn their collective backs on the Yankees. If the Yankees do make the playoffs, and it appears that they will, they will be the most dangerous of all the playoff teams. No team can compare to their offensive power and if their pitching can just keep runner off base, they are more than capable of winning the world series.

The Yankees are playing very well right now but I believe their lack of pitching will catch up with them in the playoffs. If you look at every aspect of the game including pitching, hitting, defense, and team speed, I would have to go with the Angels. They are a team that can beat you so many ways and I just believe they will be a handful for any team to handle come playoff time. By the way, it pains me to say this being a life long Dodgers fan.

i moved around lots while i substitute into too youthful to remember so there are assorted communities I enjoyed growing to be up. My relatives is from San Diego yet we lived in Chicago as properly so I grew up liking the Bears yet no longer the right age to remember the Chargers. i might continually root for any California team regardless so i substitute into chuffed seeing the 49er dynasty of the 80s and 90s. yet as I moved to our very final trip spot growing to be up, i enormously remember my aunt giving me a Yankees jacket as a going away recent to Connecticut. The Yankees have been destined to be my fashionable baseball team as i grew up from a boy to a guy. I observed each thing substitute into magnificent with ny and each thing substitute into incorrect with Boston so I hate the Sox. i detect i'm extra passionate concerning the Yankees than i'm approximately my fashionable soccer team the Chargers and an in depth 2nd the Titans.
