There were many, many people who saw the Lewinsky scandal as ridiculous and over the top. They had watched the Right pursue a witch hunt against the Clintons for six long years and shook their heads that THIS was what came out of it in the end. Right or wrong, many Americans were happy to put it behind them and concentrate on the positives of Clinton's Presidency. The Right hates to admit Clinton's popularity, here at home and around the world. They don't understand it and it galls them to no end. It's one of the reasons they love to point to Clinton in an effort at misdirection when they see criticisms of the current President. The thing is, no one but them buys that crap, so they are only preaching to their own choir.

And that drives the conservatives crazy.

Most modern president approval ratings increase after they left office. Two exception are Richard Nixon and George H W Bush. Clinton has actually gone up 10 points in the past 4 years.
I expect Dubya to carry on the family tradition.

His low was 43% and high of 69%. He left office with a 65%. Those are good numbers for approval ratings, but they are what they are. They say the American public approved of his job performance. I would put about 20% of the American public in the informed catagory when evaluating a President's job performance. The other 80% don't care or believe what they are told to believe by the Liberal media, Hence the high ratings.

There really is a conservapedia? That is the stupidest thing ever. Clinton had personal demons, but was a good president overall, which is why his numbers were so high.

Because he was amazing at diverting attention from things he was doing.

He sold our country to Wal-Mart. He used bombings to strategically deflect negative media attention. He's the biggest liar in office since Nixon (Bush is a liar, but not to the same extent, Bush's biggest lies required other people lying to him or his personal beliefs being questioned otherwise, so its not nearly the same).

That being said, it is much easier to distract people from the bad stuff when most of the bad stuff is your personal life and your policies are generally good. Despite the China thing, a few misguided military actions, and the normal amount of politicking his policies were generally good. Aside from the China/Walmart deal and the Dot Com issue, he supported small business which is much better for the economy and the people than Big Business oligopolies.

We had unprecedented peace and prosperity while he was in office. Of course, he didn't single-handedly engineer the dot com boom (or bust), but conditions have to be good for the economy to grow like that. My 401K grew like gangbusters while he was in office! It's been stagnant or kind of anemic while W has been "in charge".

It took Clinton a while to get the hang of things, but once he learned he was great at foreign policy.

Oh and to those who think he let the middle east get out of hand, how coud you forget that when he tried to bring up the subject of Osama, the republicans yelled "Wag the dog! He's distracting us from really really important stuff, like Monica."

He also tried to beef up security in airports, but that measure was shot down by the Republican congress. Thanks guys!

He never even got 50% of the vote in the general election. Thats why I don't buy into the approval rating bs the way libs do. If polls were accurate Kerry would be President right now....

Abraham Lincoln once said that "you could fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time..." This is proof that some of the people can be fooled for years afterward.

I think President Clinton did a good job, when he left the economy was booming, debt was shrinking, and there was an economic surplus.

The next president on the other hand....
