1st possible reason in my opinion is because she was worried her wig would fall off so she was being careful with her moves
2nd and most probable reason she just doesn't care anymore
and 3rd possible reason, she was drunk or most likely on something
As for the lip synching well take your pick of reason 2 or 3

It's sad, when your act is declared as a comeback, your behind should be prepared. I don't think its the wig issue or drugs, she is just damned lazy when it comes to her career and she probably does not really care but she has contractual obligations. Also she probably was under the mistaken impression that any type of press will boost interest in her "new" album due out in Nov. This will probably sink it.

Watching her performance made me really sad. I was hoping she'd be able to pull it off, even though I sort of knew she wouldn't Apparently she was partying in Vegas all the time leading up the the VMA's and didn't do as much rehearsing as she should have (she didn't look nearly as bad in the video from her rehearsal). I guess she was also upset about Sarah Silverman's joke about her kids, which is a little ridiculous (comedians make fun of everybody). I don't know. Maybe she wasn't ready for a comeback just yet.

I think she got lazy and forgot how much work she really needed to do. Her costume designer needs to be held accountable for letting her on stage not dressed....she looked awful.
Clean or not she knows better and she needs to get herself together....what she did at the VMA's was inexcusable and pathetic.
