I love the name Emerson, especially paired with the middle name Rose, Bree, or Leigh; it's filed away as one of my choices too for when (if) I have children.

It's a beautiful and feminine name, but also strong and independent, and not so terribly outlandish that it would be considered an immediate faux pas. Bonus points to the cuteness of nicknames, too -- 'Em' or 'Emmy' are so darling!

Teri Hatcher (from Desperate Housewives) gave the name Emerson Rose to her daughter. I think Emerson is more unique than Emma or Emily, but you could always use the same nicknames.
www.babynameworld.com says its a boy's name but it's rated as five out of five for people liking it...
I say go with it, combined with a second very girly name, like rose. Masculine names for girls are popular right now, and I think Emerson will make the switch!!

According to authors Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz who wrote The Baby Name Bible: The Ultimate Guide by America's Baby-naming Experts, Emerson is German in origin and means "son of the chief." They go on to say about its recent popularity, "the Combination of Emily and Emma's popularity - and the fact that Desperate Housewives' star Teri Hatcher's daughter is named Emerson - have put this choice in the limelight."
Personally, I love this name.

When I was a little girl I always hated my name - so I always wanted a pretty or romantic name... Like Elizabeth or Rachel or something. Emerson sounds like a boy name and I doubt she would like it if she is a pink wearing little girl who likes to play dress up and dance around like a ballerina. I think she would get teased by other girls saying she has a boy name.

I actually really like the name Emerson. It's different without being stupid and made-up with crazy spellings! Who cares if it sounds like a boy's name?? So does Ryan, Dylan, Riley, etc. that a lot of you have mentioned as girls' names!

Emerson? Come on, mama. When I first started reading your question, I thought it was for a boy. She's gonna hate you for that name, trust me. And you don't want that. Try Allison, Ellison, Emery, Emily, Emma, Emmanuella, Enice, Enisia, Ely, but not Emerson, maybe Emersy or Ermersia, ok? Good luck

I love the name Emerson for a girl! I think it's really pretty. However, I would pair it with a really girly middle name so that if she doesn't like it, she has a back up.

And Emie is the cutest nickname.
