Go to your local land titles office. You can't do it on-line.

A very interesting question.
The answer depends on WHERE your house is. In a big city? Out in the country somewhere?
You need to see if there is a local historical society in your area. If so, they could have info including pictures on you house. Also try your local library. Ask if they have city directories for the time period you are interested in. Also ask if they have a local history file.
Ultimately you would need to go to the County Recorder of Deeds. There you can really trace who owned the property all the way back to the original plat map.
The website below should help you locate some info.

If you are in the UK you can find a great deal out from the Records Office of your county council. Look at its website (usually www.{nameofcounty}.gov.uk). They do vary on the amount of information they have available on line. You can look at the Land Registry records on line (www.landregistry.gov.uk) but it won't tell you very much - just who currently owns the house, details of any mortgages and any covenants to which the property is subject.

It was built on an indian burial ground. It's haunted and the spirits will follow you anywhere you move now. Sorry!

Your local government has this information in the deeds office.
