I'll be really honest....I saw it coming.
When Game 3 ended, my son, who was 11 was already celebrating another Yankees Pennant as well as another Yankees World Series appearance. I distinctly remember saying to him; " I wouldn't start 'high-fiving' just yet, The Red Sox just ain't this bad of a team."
Then when Boston came back to win Game 4, something just told me they were going to do the impossible and they did.
We were on the loosing end of that series and the '04 Red Sox will go down as one of the greatest teams in baseball history which they wholly deserve.
They did it with "Fortitude and Gumption" as G.P. would say.....
I guess Yogi Berra was right, " It ain't over,'til the fat lady sings."

They got the job done! It's as simple as that. The Yankees choked big time. It reminded me of the 1986 Red Sox just one out away from winning the World Series and suddenly there was Mookie Wilson grounding a ball to Bill Buckner. Or the Bucky Dent home run in 1978. Or the 1975 World Series when the Red Sox won it 3 games to 4!!
Yea, some real amazing things happen to those Red Sox!!

the sox were favored by the experts even before the 1st pitch in game 1 was thrown. for the yankees to even win 2 games in that series that year was a miracle. what i learned is that arrogance (and i'm talking both sides here so point your guns somewhere else) is not a good thing. just look at the yankees not going all the way in this decade (exception is 2000) and the sox not successfully defending the trophy in the 2005 playoffs. the red sox played better so they deserved to win the 2004 ALCS

Yankees fans are facing dark times.
The team hasn't won a championship in this millennium.
The loss to Boston was not only crushing, it came in the most dramatic fashion possible -- and Yankees fans only like drama when it ends happily for their side -- and had the side effect of depriving them of one of their favorite taunts, "1918". So that entire postseason was a massive karmic kick to the tenderloins.
Steinbrenner is gasping for breath, and there's no firm plan of succession or any idea of whether the next regime will be so indulgent AND amusing (even if infuriating).
They face the highest priced tickets in the land if they want to visit the home field, and it is due to come crashing down in just over a year -- and there is no chance the new yard will be any cheaper on their fanly wallets.
Nobody loves them. That they are not lovable is irrelevant (if even recognized). They wanna be luvved. And they are not.
And the youngest generation is close to facing their ultimate crisis of faith -- a Yankee-free postseason (though probably not, since Seattle just choked down a goose egg the size of Plymouth Rock). The presumed birthright is at risk of being knocked off the gilded pedestal. (Probably gonna dodge this bullet, just barely.)
Faced with all this AND an ascendant Red Sox team? Little wonder that their nerves are more on edge than after a marathon 12-hour Starbucks espresso bender. No winning AND no rubbing dirt into the faces of other fans? There could be a spike in the NYC metropolitan suicide hotline call volume, come October.
They still deserve no pity, note.

I felt really bad after Game's 5 and 6, but I basically knew the Red Sox deserved it after they won.

Yes first time in history a team comes back from 3-0 to win a 7 game series.
It had to happen to some team at some point, it was a random act in my opinion.
I still want to know the position of MLB in regards to drinking on the job, we know that some of the 04 red sox were pie eyed for the games, they addmited to it.
Even more reason this was a conincedence not a trend.
Even a blind squirell finds a nut sometimes.

I was at game six at the Stadium and I knew it was over by the way we were playing. It felt like they had given up and that the Redsox were cresting. Game seven was just the dagger in the heart because they had already lost the series by then.
It's the most difficult things to do in playoff format sport and had not been done in Baseball until then.
My hats off to the Redsox and I'm a big Yankee fan.
