Danny is miles away (literally) and Stannas is just as bad. Since when has Heathrow been the "International" Airport for London? Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Luton and City Airports are all "London" International Airports. Heathrow is LHR ("London" Heathrow), Gatwick is LGW ("London" Gatwick) and Stanstead is LST ("London" Stanstead) I can't recall City Airport's abbreviation but I do know it start with a L for "London". City Airport (the closest to Central London) mainly serves Domestic and European flights. Heathrow and Gatwick serve Domestic, European and Long Haul Flights. Gatwick also serves Chartered Flights (Thomas Cook Holidays etc.). Stanstead serves mainly European, Chartered and Long Haul Flights and Luton mainly serves Chartered Flights and Budget Airlines (EasyJet etc.). Heathrow Terminals 1 to 3 serve all Airlines and Terminal 4 is mainly British Airways with a very small exception of Long Haul Flights.

London city Airport is the closest and from there you can travel into the city on the Docklands Light Railway to a underground station as well. From Heathrow to get to London quickly would cost you a fortune about £20 if you travelled on the express trains. And it would take about 45 minutes on the underground which is cheaper. Most underground trains go to Central London all you need is to get hold of a underground map and its displayed in stations for free it will also include the London Docklands Light railway. By the way where are you from the USA? Because you mentioned Downtown which they say there or Australia, N Z or Canada? thanks. I hope you have a good time in London too.

Nearest is London City Airport. But its small and expensive. 2nd and 3rd Joint is London Gatwick and London Heathrow, both have major rail links into London that take less than an hour...in fact Gatwick has a 23 min service into Central London. Then theres London Stansted, its a pain to get to London from there, you will need to book a taxi of some kind and that can be pricey.

Airport Name Distance Travel time
London City 2 Miles 10 mins
Gatwick 89 Miles 40 mins
Heathrow 60 Miles 40 Miles

The nearest is London City Airport in the Docklands, but you would not find many commercial flights serving it.
