smaller, widescreen options, seen as 'new and improved' over CRTs.
Part of it is that the manufacturers want to sell LCDs over CRTs. There is more profit in a LCD than a CRT. So for a similar time in manufacturing they can get more $$$ per unit selling a LCD.

Hi Rob
Simply the 1st thing is space!
the 2nd is ergonomics... they do look good.
the other main reasons why companies like them is they dont suffer screen glare, as most companis no use floursent tubes tube lighting, these on CRT can and offen do glare and if you have a high background light source, big windows etc then the CRT can struggle to give a bright enough picture and as a TFt can have upto 500 : 1 ratio (very bright) then its a winner all round. they have dont give off electro static shocks, and dont need filters on them for users who use them all day.
so you can see why they change them.
hope this helps a little.
good luck

Primarily for space considerations.
But they are also impervious to magnetic fields. They have no high-voltage "innards". And they operate cooler.

They're more compact, offer better resolution & colour reproduction, & they're much more energy efficient.
And they look cool!
