Without the fire of doing a particular business, you can't sustain one for very long. It's only the people who have been passionate about what they make/do/sell that keep their businesses going.

It's hard to be a business owner, even a small scale one, so find something you like or have a huge interest in, or you'll run out of steam before things really get rolling. You'll have to hold out money for taxes PLUS the self employment tax, and find a health insurance on your own too. There's downsides....

Starting you own business is a risky and time consuming effort, but well worth risks if you are successful.

Pick something that you like to do. We know that you don't like "working for the man", but think about what interest you do have.

If you like fixing things, perhaps a maintenance business of some sort. If you like to cook, then perhaps a small sandwich shop.

It is very important that you do something that you like to do and then your enthusiasm will help you to excel at it. If you don't, then you simply become the man yourself.
