To be an equation , RHS = 0
3x² + 5x + 9 = 0
[ - 5 ± √(25 - 108) ] / 6

Assuming the RHS=0 then we multiply throughout by X to remove the X^-1 then we have
3X^3 +5X^2 +X +9=0
I'll leave it to you to simply apply the formula for solving for X found at

Multiply through by X
3x^3 + 5x^2 +x +9
This cubic does not factor. You need to use a calculator like a TI-89 to find the roots. There are three (of course).
-2.15695 , 0.245142 - i*1.153584 , 0.245142 + i*1.153584
