...for real, when rocking out on some kind of loud, awful, brutal stuff that no one else you know would consider fit to commit to CD (or vinyl... or tape...) do you ever stop for a moment and wonder...

"Man, *why* do I like this????"

I do.

I mean, I don't think there is anything wrong with me because I like it. But I do wonder what elements of being allow me to recognize such a diverse array of sounds as enjoyable music, since the average Western Civilisation citizen does not.

And then, there was the time when the Beatles were considered the awful noise, so you know what that means... eventually this is gonna be popular... and *then* what will be the cutting edge sounds of "music"?

nah, fusion, that's just what I'm talking about.

Any subsequent stragglers to this question, like Wolf Eyes... you guys know Wolf Eyes? I'm talking harsh noise. I like my Melt Banana, too, and my Scottish bagpipe tunes, but I'm mainly thinking about literally, harsh noise.

I like all sorts of different music, i have a major debate with my wife constantly about some of my tastes in music. and a lot of Friends cant understand why i listen to music from the opposite end of the spectrum.
the thing is it all depends on the person everyone is different, i don't think, "why do i like this and nobody else does" i just listen, if i like it i play it if i don't i wont, simple.
i was a raver for 10 years and i watched this whole dance scene change from underground and unpopular to commercial and well known. it sickens me to think of that, but unfortunately it is the way of the world now.
sorry for going on i just love my music.

I have thought about that too. I can't see brutal, loud, awful music as ever being "popular". It will always have its underground following, but as long as we still have some sort of morals, that will never be pop. When I was a teen, I used to listen to The Exploited and Guttermouth and Slayer. In time I grew out of that music and now wouldn't let my children near that music. It's called growing up and being responsible. Any responsible citizen of the community wouldn't want anarchy. The Beatles were never seen as awful. Only the big band generation and older thought of them as terrible. They were popular from the minute they came out of the gate. But have you ever stopped to think how music has become progressively stupider and less talented over the last 200 years? Look at classical music. It's pure genius. There isn't a popular artist alive who could write a classical piece that rivals Beethoven. And now what do we have? Rap and scream. Music is progressively getting worse.

I like hard rock, because I find it upbeat and energetic. I usually don't like softer stuff, because it usually either bores or depresses me.
