Rod is on the PUP list. He won't be eligible to play until after week 6 I think. His recovery from offseason hip surgery did not progress as hoped. Us Broncos fans sure do miss him though. Get well #80
In Rod we trust.

The Denver Broncos placed wide receiver Rod Smith, their career receptions and touchdowns leader, on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Tuesday. Smith is recovering from offseason hip surgery. He will not be able to come off the list until at least Week 7 vs. Pittsburgh, after the team's bye in Week 6.

Rod is injured and will not play for a few more games. When he is better, he will probably have his receptions further cut by the new WR core for the Broncos. I would not be surprised if he opted to retire rather than pushing a come-back.
It's too bad, he was a fantastic leader for the Broncos. With all of the loss they have had in the off-season, this is rough. It was great to see them rally on Sunday and hopefully they will destroy Oakland.

He's on IR right now so he won't be playing the Raiders on Sunday. He's injured. Look for a healthier alternative.

Denver put him on the PUP after his surgery on his back. As such he won't be eligible to return until week 7 at the earliest. At best I think he might return but it will be in limited action with the emergence of Marshall and with having Stokley.

This article from the Rocky Mountain News is a little old, but indicates that due to major hip surgery (way back in February), Smith could potentiall be out for the first 6 weeks of the season:
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/nfl/article/0,2777,DRMN_23918_5678962,00.html
The team roster (http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=396) also denotes his name with an asterix, which according to this page (http://www.denverbroncos.com/page.php?id=350) "Denotes that player had limited participation in practice, defined as less than 100 percent of a player's normal repetitions."

He's hurt and basically done. By the time he's healthy enough to return, Brandon Marshall will have solidified the #2 spot.
