In 1991 her 21-month-old son Ben went missing on the Greek island of Kos and the family were convinced he was taken by child traffickers.

When local police turned up nothing, and politicians began to worry about the effect on tourism, they let it be known that the family were either covering up an accident or they had sold Ben. Spot the similarities with Madeleine.

Kerry's brother Stephen, who was 17 at the time, said that the police pressure was so relentless, he began to believe he had killed his nephew and buried him with a spade.

Ben has never turned up, but neither has any evidence against any member of the Needham family. Yet to this day there are still people convinced they are to blame.

That's very true.
I do feel that the Portuguese police are trying to pin it on the parents now because it has become such a worldwide known case that the only way they can get closer on the case is by solving it so seen as they have coverd every other aspect and turned up with nothing the only thing left to do is blame the parents.

Know don't get me wrong here is something very odd in the case but don't think we will ever find out what really happened.

There are no similarities, Ben was playing in the garden of his Grandmother's home in a remote part of the island. Madeleine was left in an unlocked apartment whilst her parents were at a restaurant 100 metres away.

I live in Kos and crime here is exceptionally low, you don't hear of child trafficking, as far as I know Ben was the only case, although it has never been proved.

I saw a documentary where Ben's uncle was hypnotised, it cast some doubt over the whole story, but nothing ever came of it.

I saw a programme on that a few weeks ago, the islanders turned against the family horribly. However yet again, a 21 month old baby was left outside to play on his own without supervision.......

I think the similarities are only that another beloved child went missing and nothing but heartache and conspiracies abound for the families.

Yep it's been noted. The impact of what has happened is much more far reaching than that of Madeleine's family. The Portugese tourist board must be having a fit!

Exactly - look how tourism has gone to sh*t since Natalie Holloway has gone missing - they don't want that happening there.
