The M's aren't going to win the Wild Card.

It's not impossible, but it's going to be very tough for the Mariners to win the wild card.

Five games isn't an insurmountable lead, but it's hard to do so this late in the season, unless the team in the lead really slumps badly. I don't think the Yankees will slump because 9 of their remaining 19 games are against Baltimore and Tampa Bay. It's likely the Yankees will win at least 6 of those games. Even if they only go 5-5 in their other 10 games, it still gives them an 11-8 record to close out the season. The Mariners would have to go 17-4 to catch up.

Of course, this is conjecture right now. It's possible the Mariners will win the next five games and the Yankees will lose the next 5 games--but I doubt it with the way New York has played since the All-Star break.

Plus, the Mariners would have to pass the Tigers too, which would also be tough because Detroit has 14 games left against sub .500 teams.

The Mariners have run out of time. The Yankees have 19 games to play and the Mariners have 21. As an example, if the Yankees win 10 and lose 9 of their remaining games than the Mariners would have to win 17 and lose 4 to beat the Yankees by one game. The Yankees should win more than 10 of their final games while the Mariners will not come close to winning 17 of their final 21 games.

Sorry but they are too streaky of a team to get back in it this year. Even if they played well enough to catch the Yankees they'd just hit another slump and be gone. They still have a series left with the Angels and the Indians including a doubleheader. I'm not writing anybody off but it's not looking good for them to catch anybody this year. They are NOT far off from making an even stronger run next year. One or two starters should do the trick.

The Mariners have quite a road ahead of themselves if they wish to reclaim the wildcard. With the Tigers and Yankees ahead of them along with the recent slump they had, they are in quite a hole. I think its possible for them to pass the Tigers, but i don't see them catching up to the Yankees. It's not impossible, just highly unlikely.

I would like nothing more than to see the Mariners make the playoffs. I just don't think it's very likely as they would probably need to sweep Oakland twice, sweep TB and Texas once each while splitting the games with the Angels and the Indians. It CAN happen and I still Say ((( GO MARINERS ))) but I'm not holding my breath any more.

They are too far back with too little season in front of them. They would have to go on an incredible winning streak PLUS pray that those in front of them fade just to get a sniff of the playoffs.
At least they kept it interesting until football season.

as much as i would like to see the yankees not make the playoffs, i think it's an uphill climb for the Ms to make it to the wild card
