I see in some cases that I have been blocked and I was just wondering what drives people to do so. Do you hate seeing different opinions?

what is "fan blocking"?

I am not sure who it was or when, I only know that as I hit the "show me another" button i get that message saying i can't see a question. It's annoying, so I looked in to it and saw that it was most likely due to blocking.

I found out that it is a_bush_family_member who blocked me. This is odd considering the confrontational nature of this persons questions and answers. I suppose some people are only capable of dishing it out.

This same person did the same thing to me. He blocked me and I never said anything bad. All I did was bring up questions in my answers to get him to think.

Don't take offense. It's just the way he is sometimes and it's his right just as much as it is yours.

I have only blocked a couple users for the reasons that I was receiving some very unfriendly and unsolicited emails from fellow users who disagreed with my opinion.

I do respect the every bodies right to voice their opinion, however when they cross that line and begin to send an all about personal assault condemning you to eternal hell fire, or telling you just how stupid, obscene or otherwise ridiculous your opinion may be they need to be blocked.

Big Pisano,
Guess you are not alone because I'm another member that has been blocked by "the bush family member".
Have no clue why but you are so right---it is very annoying when you click on "show me another" and you get his message. Ugh !!

We are in a "Special Group" !! :)))

And No, I have never blocked any other user.

I never have and never will block anyone. I use thumbs up or down to do that. I'm not a woman, so I don't have stalker issues (I might block someone in that case, but believe me, no one who has ever known me would stalk me!) but if I felt the need to block people I would simply not visit Y/A.

To avoid receiving abusive emails or stalkers!

I don't hate seeing different opinions, but some other answerers hate seeing mine, then they send me emails. That's annoying.

When I post questions, I do not give thumb up or down and I do not report people, I never report anyone, I prefer to see all answers to be kept as record! I welcome different opinions, but not the abusive answers or emails, so the only thing I can do is to just - BLOCK those who sent me silly emails.

I believe when discussion and open exchange of ideas deteriorates into name-calling and harassment, a block is appropriate. With some, their ingrained bias is not open to debate, their only purpose is to intimidate or humiliate those who disagree. There are stupid questions whose askers deserve to be blocked i.e. "Since Bush knew of 9-11 in advance......" or "Why is Hillary such a fat cow?" You can't fix stupid, sometimes blocking is the best answer.

I'm cool with hearing opposing views so long as they are respectful. Some people are rude, crass, or even vulgar. These people should be blocked or even banned from Yahoo Answers all together so they don't ruin it for others.

I've never had a reason to do so. I was going to try to determine why people have blocked you, but your Q&A's are set to private. Why are you blocking people from seeing your Q&A's?

It's "fan" blocking!!! Some od these fools care so much about their political agenda that they will continually harass you.

I only block those who make derogatory comments about others, insult others and are abusive to others.
