The best description of the popularity of this name came from the book The Baby Name Bible: The Ultimate Guide by America's Baby-naming Experts by Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz. Here is what it says " Joaquin, (wah-KEEN) Spanish variation of Joachim. Actor Joaquin Phoenix (brother of River, Rain, Liberty and Summer) highlighted this one, then Kelly Ripa began talking about son Joaquin on her daily TV show, and presto - it's now one of the hottest multicultural choices."
I love this name - it's very strong sounding and will probably be the next "Michael" or "Christopher. "

Joaquin IS a beautiful name and if you like it, use it, for sure.

I would not have named one of our four that though because I preferred to go with family names. Being from the U.S. South, I love double names that are family oriented and different. Here's a great article on that type of name -- a name that no other child is likely to have:

I think it is nice, but not a name I would use personally. If you like it go for it! Alot of people criticize me and my husband for our sons name, Traigan, but we don't care. We love his name!
