I'm not black, I'm Indian. But there were some geniuses in the 60's and the 70's who invented the actual rock like blues and rock n' roll like Hendrix, Bad Brains and B.B. King. Sadly there has not been any black artist or band who came with something even close to rock. And I hate hip hop. No offense but its REPETITIVE!.

Anyways If you're black and you like people like Smashing Pumpkins (Mellon Collie and Siamese Dream era), Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alanis Morisette, Radiohead, Beck and Oasis and hate hip hop (that part is optional) then please reply

I like Hip-Hop. Lupe Fiasco is fantastic! And I like 90's alt rock, too. Jagged Little Pill was one of my favorite albums growing up. I like Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins too. And Fall Out Boy, now that I mention it, even though that's not really "90's." But just recently, I've started listening to the Flaming Lips. the WAND is my favorite song right now...after Lupe Fiasco's "Dumb it Down." And "Dig," by Incubus.

But you should listen to the Noisettes. "Scratch Your Name" is a really good song, and they have a black lead-singer, too. They rock.

Nirvana, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Incubus, Deftones, 311, Alice in Chains, Weezer, Greenday...just to name a few.

I won Karaoke competitions singing You Oughta Know. Not really a big Radiohead or Oasis fan. I like Loser by Beck.

I like some hip-hop. But, I listen to rock, first and foremost.

My current interests are a little heavier and include Godsmack, System of a Down, Slipknot, Audioslave, Pantera, Chevelle, etc. Still blast Rage as much as possible. I also have a soft spot for classic rock including The Doors, CCR, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Steppenwolf, Jimi Hendrix, etc. Love Johnny Cash, too.

I actually to front my own rock band and am a self-taught guitarist.

Duuuude! You forgot the Gin Blossoms! :-)

Yeah - I love that music. It's great. I am a huge Hendrix fan and I must agree with you - there have not really been any black artists to shake up the "rock" or "alternative" world.

But I do dig all those bands. I'm all about Oasis - I always have been....add to that Matchbox 20, The GooGoo Dolls, and the Cranberries.
