Normally I'd say yes. But I helped a bunch of people put together Christmas baskets for the extremely poor and give them out. Do you know?........they were soooo grateful for all the hygiene products such as shampoo, soap, razors, and deodorant. It was very touching how grateful they were.It made me think of how much we take such simple things, like that, for granted.

I find it horrible to give/receive a bar of soap, no matter how fancy or scented it may be or how expensive it may be.
I think it gives the impression that the other person thinks you need to have a bath more often. Even if that is not for real, that is the impression I get.

Not if it is very nice handmade soap in a scent that the person likes. Some of these soaps are expensive.
On the other hand, if it is just a bar of Ivory, then it is not much of a gift.

If it's JUST a bar of soap, then YES! But if it's in a gift basket of bath items, then no. Soap is essential.

Not if it is specialty soap.I love the colorful smell good stuff. Put some ribbon and some dried flowers on it and it is all of a sudden beautiful to look at and yummy to smell.

Depends on what kind and if it's just one bar of Zest,....ummm, prolly not. But you can get some really great soaps, pretty, all natural, and expensive. Great combo.
