He is very smart, but I know it is recommended for teens. I guess I'm wondering about the sex and crude humor. Any insight?

First of all "smart" isn't necessary to play sims. They aren't difficult. The reason it's recommended for older children is because of content.

I just asked the same question of one of my friends as I was considering it for one of our children who is also under 12. I have gone through both games at my friends' this summer and what we are doing is going with the old first version sims with the "unleashed" which allows her to have the animals to care for along with the family. We aren't going with sims 2 because it goes through pregancy, "live" birth and does have some 'commentary' that we think should wait until she is older. There are so many other great games out there....why rush?

I don't think I'd recommend Sims 2 for anyone under 12. At least we're not having it here. (-;

Yes, I would say that it is appropriate for a 9 year old. I have the original Sims game with all of the expansion packs. My 9 year old niece and 12 year old nephew love it and my little cousins ,who are 5 and 8, also love it!!

However, I think the original Sims would be better for your child than The Sims 2 because there's a lot more to the game on The Sims 2. The original game is easier for younger kids.

The only time that they have sex (also known as 'woo hoo') ,in both games, is if you tell them to and even then you never see anything. They're under the sheets or under the water in the hot tub. So, nothing is shown. Also, when they take a shower or a bath there is a blur over them so you won't see anything then either.

I hope this helps. ♥

Well, Sims 2 is a 7+, but the expansion packs say 12+, i don't really think its that innappropriate, i mean the things which are on the maybe inappropriate section are:
Making Out

"Woo-Hoo".......trying for a baby but not....
Some flirt moves...like goose
Cheating on each other

But i think you can learn from sims 2, sims 2 allows you to explore you creative side and be imaginative, making a house can teach you something....

Maxis try to make the game appropriate for children, so don't worry about that, maxis ( made game ) try to make it not inappropriate...

Considering the busting and constant kissing and making out could be a little inappropriate to a nine year old.

But when the sims are busting they are not really showing them make love. But in such order it can cause him to think a little beyond of what he thinks.

If you had the "talk" with him then maybe you can let him off.
But still if not maybe wait till he's thirteen.

Sims2 is more graphic and has the sexual PDA. While Sims is less graphical and can easly be more safe for him.

all thats REALLY inappropriate for them would be woo-hoo really A.K.A doing it! But in any caseits unlikely that he would be able to because you have to make them relax on a bed first etc! there really is nothing to worry about i know loads of kids who play it and dont even know about Woo-Hoo!!
