I'm saying the people in the grocery stores or whatever.........they say it to tons of people a day, do you REALLY mean it when you ask someone out of the blue how they are?

No, they DON'T care. It's just an automated response. Like saying "God bless you" when you sneeze. People don't care if God really blesses you or curses you or even if God exists. They're just programmed like robots to say it.

It is just a social rapport.
Not usually intended to
open the door of ones
life history. It is strictly
language candy to express
warmth in the greeting.
The real juicy stuff is for
immediate friends and family,
only !!

some people are genuine about it just by seeing the expressions on their faces and their wholehearted smiles you wouold definitely know and there are some who you can tell are plastic about it and dont care really care,they hust do what management tells them to do =)

I think some people care, others use it more like a salutation.

if people honestly answered that question, i guess more people would actually careee!! .. although when i ask that question i mean it.. !! i mean if someone told me they werent doing so well i would be concerned..!! and i think it goes vice versa too =)

no, they don't, it's just being polite. i mean can you imagine..a stranger says hi how are you and you stop to give them your whole life story!
