Sometimes tv and fiction is based on hidden knowledge. Do you think the government has a stargate that they have used for centuries?

Some think the computer came from the stargate. Look at how fast technology has advanced since the 1940s

No way. It's science FICTION, not FACT. And about computers and technology advancing rather fast and such, can't you just accept the fact that some people are genius-smart and that some of them choose to invent things? Also computers didn't always look like your everyday laptop, they use to be quite large and bulky.

The stargate is a giant, spinning toilet that only exists for those who watch a bit too much TV. The closest thing to a stargate in existence (other than my computer (or my toilet for that matter!)) is the giant plastic ring that they use to make the shows.

Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but when you get to the point where you wonder if it's real, there's something wrong.

Also, the government hasn't existed for much more than two centuries, so your word choice is a bit awkward (and it sounds like what you might find in the tabloids). Do you honestly believe that we were able to win WWII because of a giant stone ring that we keep conveniently buried underground? Oh wait, that's right, you aren't even sure if we won WWII, so what am I talking about!

I'm honestly sorry if any of this is offensive to you. It's just that I keep trying to explain to people that TV IS FAKE and if you watch too much of it, you'll start believing everything you see on it. No, there is not a monster in every closet and there are not lovable, red/purple dinosaurs roaming the Earth to spread happiness while singing, "I love you, you love me..."

Attempts to link ancient Egypt and it's incredible monuments with aliens has been a popular new-age sub category since the early 60's. As far as I know the idea is as old as the stories of H.P. Lovecraft (1920's or 30's) where Nyarlathotep, an alien of demigod-like power conquers Egypt as "The Black Pharaoh".

Despite archaeologists having a pretty good idea how pyramids can be built with bronze age technology and a large labor force and a recognizable progression in monument size and sophistication some people still stick to the "aliens must have helped" theory.

Emmerich and Devlin just took the new age/H.P. Lovecraft idea one step further, then the Sci-Fi channel took it a step further still.

Then Emmerich and Devlin made some horrible movies like ID4, Godzilla and The Day After Tommorrow.

This is a subject my husband and I have talked about a few times. My husband used to be in the Air Force, and while he was stationed near to Cheyenne Mountain, there was a lock down, where everyone in his base was not allowed to go out doors. He looked outside when this happened, and saw several large trucks go into Cheyenne Mountain.

He says if there really is a Stargate, or some other piece of technology similar to it, making a TV show about it would create "plausible deniability". That way, if someone were to leak the "real" news, they could just say "oh, they must watch that show on TV".

There are some theories out there about wormholes, and such, but they have yet to be proven.

And, as I always say, if we are the only people inhabiting a planet, then that is just a massive waste of space.

The book, The Ra Material ,says that the Red peoples lived on a planet called Marduk before they came here. And the Greys fought a war with them and the Yellow peoples on Mars for control of Earth. Marduk was completely destroyed and is now the Belt of Asteroids. The Greys destroyed the atmosphere on Mars with another type of weapon.
Some Reds supposedly went through a portal like a stargate to get to Earth. After escaping the destruction of their world by going into another dimension. Which could be the true meaning behind the Red peoples legend they came here through a "hole" in the Earth.

Stargate draws on a number of sources.

Primarily the "Chariots of the Gods" theories of Von Danniken and similar. (The age old theory that the advanced state of living enjoyed by ancient civilisations was down to alien involvement)

Also the military conspiracy drama- always a popular genre!

and let's not forget one of the oldest storytelling MacGuffins in existence- The "Magic Door".

Mind -- you legend has it that certain stone circles are gateways to other worlds!

I agree that technology has advanced faster than any other time in history. My answer to this question is that if one day that the goverment did release information about a real stargate then I would not be surprised. Until that time we can only wonder.

Stargate has some interesting points in its favor. But there is not enough evidence to judge yet. But it did a great job explaining Egyptian mythos. I think that's what good writers do - they look at something and say "what if?" And then they get all of us to look at things from a different point of view. They make us think. And that's something a lot of people really need to do for themselves. :)
