This is the reason for receipts. You may be lucky if the place you bought it will look up the transaction, but don't count on it. You have learned a lesson in responsibility at a high cost.

so, you learned to send it by registered mail. That means the recipient has to sign for it to receive the mail(otherwise, basically you just stuffed money in an envelope) Anybody who opens it can cash it.(including the mail carrier). By the registering of it, it has to be signed off otherwise the PO is on the hook for the missing money.

Wherever you purchased the money order, the bank or financial institution should be able to trace it using the amount and date etc. and determine whether it has been cashed.

where did you buy the money order? would they be kind enough to look through their duplicates to find it for you? if they found it, they could make a copy for you.
Good Luck.

Check with the person that did the money order. Do you know how you paid for it? They should be able to trace it for you.
