No, he's not.

The small claims court will tell you, it's unreasonable to expect the landlord, to know when something is going to break.

If you told the landlord as soon as it broke and he called for a repairman right away, what's he supposed to do? It was after all during the weekend.

Next time get some renters insurance, thats about the only protection you'll get.

A broken refrigerator isn't seen an emergency so I doubt he is going to call you decrease back this evening. An emergency may well be no plumbing, a broken window, get right of entry to door lock no longer working, etc. I even have by no skill presented nor been asked by way of a tenant to pay for spoiled nutrition from a refrigerator breaking down. it is not a landlords duty. What might you do approximately your nutrition in case you owned the refrigerator? do no longer stand there with the door open and the nutrition could stay chilly sufficient. call the workplace first factor interior the morning and spot what they are able to do for you.

Depends on your lease, but probably not. You can take him to small claims court, but that will only make him angry. Best idea is to have renter's insurance (about $100 a year in most places) to cover these kinds of problems.

If you have renter's insurance, check with your agent.

I would definitely ask your landlord in a nice way and tell them of your delma.
I would think he may deduct some rent for your loss.

They could be but they probably won't pay it. This happened to me and I didn't get one dime when I asked them to pay for the food. It doesn't hurt to ask though.
