You need your cable modem to get internet access. You then can use a wireless router.

There is NO stand alone wireless MODEM furnished by any ISP.
They do however make available for an additional charge a MODEM-ROUTER combined that is wireless
Your Cable Modem is furnished by your ISP and is confiqured to give you a signal.
If your Wireless MODEM has the capability to be confiqured with the same settings as the one furnished by your ISP then yes.
I hope you are not confusing a Router for a modem.

you can't. I believe you mean your wireless adaptor, not wireless modem.
The cable modem connects you to your ISP. Assuming it has wireless capability and acts as a wireless router, your wireless adaptor connects your PC to the modem..
so, without the cable modem, you cannot go on the internet.
However, if you go to a public hotspot like a cafe, then you do not need the cable modem, because the cafe has the modem and broadcasts out the wirelss signal for you to use and your wireless adaptor to connect to.

If you have a modem,router,wireless router all in one unit then yes. If you have only a wireless router and a cable modem then no . 2-Wire makes all in ones for at&t dsl
