Americans don't work as hard as lower paying people, i see that at work, they bullshit and get no productivity done, it's really sad when i see someone making 60k a year and laughing and smiling for 30 mins straight and it's not even on their break or lunch either....how does a country survive if this kind of behavior goes on because it rips off the consumer in purchasing goods and services at a higher cost if the productivity is very low

There is no reason you shouldn't have a good time while you work, but I do agree, the higher the salary, the less productive many people are.

No.

Americans aren't losing jobs because it's too expensive to keep them employed. Not even close. Non-Americans are working in America at an incredible rate, but they aren't taking jobs from Americans.

Show me a single American who wanted to get a job and couldn't because a non-American took their job. It doesn't exist, except as a political point to score votes. There isn't a single area of the workforce in the U.S. that has immigrants as the majority. Landscaping, whatever. It's true that there's an influx of immigrants in the U.S. and this causes concerns with the social services, but as for taking jobs, it's not true, no matter how much Fox News you watch.

Thanks for thinking about us though. Touching. Really.

yes of course pressure from the third world and particularly china and india is heaping the pressure on americans and particularly in germany companies are moving their operations across the border int o the eastern zone where everything is cheaper and especially labour costs.
I see on reading your detais that you are approaching this from a different angle from the usual. I wondered where you people were as this pressure could not exist if these people and their products were not welcomed into the country; your argument is that they are a force for good as they eliminate the possibility of ripping off the consumer as opposed to the ususal an angle on the problem which is that we are competing against slave labour.
My unthinking impression on all of this was that people like you were prepared to meet this competition on its own ground and were prepared to do the sixty hour weeks of honest graft in order to have a high standard of living. There are several things wrong from my point of view with this imagined and no doubt faulty scenario; anyone working sixty hour weeks needs very close looking at as their working practices are probably unhealthy on several levels; instinctively it seems to me that the U.S. as they increase productivity they also increase problems and this is reflected in their expanding waistlines and social problems; it is not work done in a healthy way and this competion with the third world which does exploit the poor is just an extension of this nonsense which takes no account of overall quality of life.
And still the internal gap between rich and poor continues to grow and still the gap grows between the third way and us - and the result of this gap; our exploitation of them continues to choke us with our own greed.
The theory of globalisation and your point about prices may be valid and may be spreading productivity more widely and it may be true that capitalism and self interest are the most efficient carriers of economic prosperity but they must be tempered by some kind of moral guiding light.

Those of us who have skills and work experience do not want to work for $7.00/hr and no benefits... but there are a lot of minorities, and residents with work visas, high school students etc who will work for min. wage. It is harder these days to find work let alone one that will pay you what you are worth. Those who make 6 figures a year, hardly work, drive fancy cars and live in extravagent homes usually never had to "work" for anything. I know a few people like this.... born into a wealthy family, got into the best schools, got a great job b/c daddy had connections.....so on and so on. Its a tough world out there, and many of us have to learn how to live on $200/week. We have to struggle and sacrifice and pray that our jobs arent taken away and our companies relocated to mexico or china.

Capitalism !
It never really seems fair does it - but it seems to work ??
What I hate is to see unions push so hard that they encourage employers to move out of the state. Mommy's and Dad 's are left looking desperately for another way to feed their babies !
I have seen so many examples of a lost work ethic also - no one wants to really work for the money.
It's "lets make a deal'' or lets see how much I can get for the least amount of effort.

Ummm, excuse me... but I only make $35K a year and I laugh and talk to my coworkers; I don't take a lunch break either. So your theory just went right out the window.

Perhaps you need to find a new job and I need a raise!!

we are losing our jobs because we send our jobs overseas because our corporations are greedy and want to make sure THEY never ever take a loss in profits

American corporations don't care about us so why should we care about helping them make more money ???

in all fairness, those people you are talking about may put in long hours after you've gone home or done business via computer or phone before they even got into the office
