I really don't know they say its according to the no. of best answers u get in any section or yr daily or monthly answers and questions or by the amount of stars u get.
But the bottom line is no one knows. I was a top contributor for a few months then i lost it! Why did i get it or why i lost it i have no definite answer.
U know what just keep contributing to this section and u will get it ISA. Don't worry. :-).

this is the story : I got my first by answering in optical section [ I don't know how , but I think through the number of ur best answers ] and then I found that people cheat there and vote for themselves , so I kicked their as$es and cheated to be the second top answerer , her in Egypt and Lebanon I usually don't cheat , I just vote for my answers [ only one vote ] , but when I'm about to reach a new level I get very competitive [ I'm a real geek in compitition ] and play hard .

3) Choose an answer to your question as the best one
4) Don't ask much (questions)
5) Follow the rules of Yahoo (no cursing, violence, porn..)
6) Read the table of ways to earn points at Yahoo! Answers and follow them (in case I forgot sth)

i think how it works is
you answer lots and lots of questions , as you do ,.
you will see your points rise up levels until eventually you become a top contributor
