Any stainless steel cleaner should do it. Barkeepers Friend, Cameo, Zud, something like that.

Use a soft cloth or nylon sponge and a little bit of detergent on the spot. Do not use bleach, chlorine or otherwise. If this does not work, try a little baking soda. Always rince out the sink after you use it, soap film can leave a rainbow looking mark in the stainless steel.
I take everything out of the sink after I wash dishes. I use a small amount of veg oil on a paper towel to shine up the sink.

I don't think anything will remove them.. In fact in time if the spots turn to holes you'll have to remove the sink/replace. If you rent mention it to the landlord BEFORE you have a hell of a mess on your hands... Also, avoid the use of heavy duty drain cleaners like Drano on Stainless Steel it will eat away the bowl of the sink.. Good luck

Citric acid (or a few drops of lime juice) applied to the spots for a few minutes using a piece of tissue paper followed by rubbing with alumina coated Scotchbrite should remove the spots.
