It just seems to me, if the case against them is strong enough to consider charging them, and if they are that heavily suspected (I just read that the case has been passed to the Prosecution service to consider taking the case agains them), so why did the Portuguese allow them to leave the country?

I am not commenting on the guilt or lack thereof of the McCanns themselves, but more on the Portuguese police and their methods. Seems a bit of a farce to me!

I really have no idea. I can only assume that the Portugese law system is completely different to ours. I also wondered how, when Kate was interviewed and named as a suspect, that she was allowed to go home to Gerry, who was the next day being questioned and named as a suspect. Doesn't that give them ample time to colaborate and get their stories straight if they are in fact guilty of anything?

Portugal has an odd justice system. Police can name you as a suspect without evidence. This means they can ask you questions they otherwise could not ask if you were not. If there was any evidence against the McCanns they would arrest them. Trust me the Portugese Police have no hesitation in throwing away the key if they think your guilty. This case is also harming the Portugese tourist industry. It would also be very convenient if the perp was not a native portugese

The McGanns have kippered themselves right up, they have generated so much publicity and are so well known that there is no way they could do a runner if they wanted/needed to? Therefore it's fairly safe to leave them wandering around as they can be picked whenever the police want to.

They are allowed to leave because they are not charged, so they have gone home on the off chance they are charged and the portuguise aurthorites get the other 2 little kids!!!!!!!!!! Thats the only reason they have come home, to protect the kids!

What a pity your self loathing is not strong enough to make you refrain from adding to the overload. If you think that anybody on Y A knows the answer to your 'question' then I suggest the answer is that you pop down to the chemist and pick up the repeat prescription that you forgot about.

I think the Portuguese wanted them out to get negative attention out of their tourist resorts, and they knew turning up the heat would do the trick.

By being named arguido's they have certain conditions placed on them which can vary....Also they are British nationals so for that reason they are able to leave Portugal.....However you must remember that they can be forced to return to Portugal with very short notice!

I don't think the Portuguese police are really up to scratch.

I think if they had anything at all on the McCanns they would have nicked them straight away.

As it stands today, and as I believe it should stand.

Innocent until proven guilty.
