He said that MTV should show music videos and not so much reality television! What do you think?

(it is strange that they have a music awards show and have virtually no music on their channel anymore. I'm a child of the 80s when they did only show videos all the time and I miss it!)

i think that they should have an MTV reality channel for all those reality shows and use the original MTV channel for videos and news about music artists only .

I definitely agree. I didn't have cable for about 7 years after 1999, and I can't believe how much MTV changed when I finally placed an order for Comcast cable last year. Where are the music videos? I think MTV was best in the mid to late nineties. There was a balanced mix of playing videos along with non-music related shows.

I remember when there was music still on MTV. I don't know that 24 hrs a day is a good idea, there are other channels out there that do that now. But what would be really nice is if they hadn't ruined TRL. I remember being in junior high it was a true top ten show, and you could see the whole video, and vote for your favorite, and the guest interviews / etc were really good. It was like a modern day Casey's Countdown, or American bandstand or soemthing.

They could have taken TRL and made it into a primetrime event, and done a big showcase once a week with the top videos in entirety, guest live performances and interviews, etc. Instead they took out all but 30 sec of each requested song, and made it into one giant commerical for thier sterotypes of whatever the fad of the week is in thier hapless hosts.

Great idea for a show - so wasted.

I'm a child of the 80s too, and yes, I miss that. The 'reality' shows they have are beyond pathetic - 'Engaged and Underaged'??? Not a good example...I'd be curious to see where all these couples are 5 years from now...gonna guess by then most had already seen the inside of a divorce court. And then there's supersweet 16 or whatever that is. Just what we need to see - a bunch of spoiled beyond rotten rich brats or want for nothing getting more. Bring back the videos. But I'd rather watch sports these days.

YES!!!! i mean seriously, their main objective should be promoting music, instead we have to endure shows like next, my sweet 16, celebrity rap star, engaged & underaged, etc. and don't forget that bisexual dating show coming up.
The only time they play mostly music is when most people are sleeping. Does that seem right? The only music show that they have during the day is TRL which SUCKS!!!!
They so desperately need to bring back the music. They don't need to play music 24 hours a day. Nor should it be reality shows galore like it is now. There has to be some middle ground. Bring back the top 20 countdown, 120 minutes, the 10 Spot and Yo! MTV Raps.

I agree. I stopped watching MTV a long time ago since they cut the music way down. I really don't care for those stupid "reality" shows which are boring, scripted crap. I was a teen in the 80's also and I loved MTV but now, forget it.

he's obsolutly right! mtv is Music Television! remember when they used to show videos and they had vjs. not just showing half a video on trl while a bunch of morons scream in the background! i guess i just miss the 80s (even the early 90s) when we would get all excited cuse the vmas were coming on and we'd fight with our parents to stay up late to watch it on a school night.

Yeah, I too agree. I was born in 83 and remember it being mostly music videos and such. I cant stand what it is today. MTV just sucks if you ask me. Especially that Sweet Sixteen show! God i hate that stuff!

Im not really a big fan of the music these days so i just stay away from it anyways.

Yep, I too am a child of the 80s and miss when the "M" in MTV actually meant something. It's so pathetic to see what it's become.

i agree with you totally. i don't even watch TRL anymore cause they don't even bother showing the whole video anymore...they run like 30 seconds of it, cut to the studio with everyone yelling and goin wild, then cut to a commercial. they really need to get back to music videos. maybe they'll listen to him since he basically swept the awards!
