We need to put on a new roof which includes replacing some of the decking and some additional repairs.

How does it normally take to recieve an estimate for a roofing job from the time someone comes for an inspection to gather the information needed to the time we (should) get a written estimate?

What has been your experience? Thank you for your time.

Takes about a week, depending on how busy the company is. If there is major storm damage in your area expect to wait longer. Should cost about $150.00 per square installed,(materials and labor) and square is 10 ftX10ft. My roof is 16 square and a new roof cost me around $2500.00

An estimator that is any good can give you the price before he leaves the property. It is all figured by square footage and they know the cost of materials and labor. Just make sure to have everything in writing and be sure they are bonded and insured. Ask for references. Most reliable companies like to brag about their happy customers. Check the references also. Another thing most people do not consider is clean-up. Insure that all materials removed are also removed from the property at jobs end and that nails will be picked up. They use a magnet for this.

I would say within a week or two, roofers were in demand a while back but should be caught up. A written estimate is good for your protection, most important make sure the company is insured, lisenced and bonded in your state. Demand these credentials, to many people have been swindled by people posing as roof contractors.

We got three estimates with a week. The estimates are usually good for 30 days, too. Any reputable roofer will be glad to come out with the week and give you a written estimate.

You should get within 10 minutes while the estimator is there. In the Southeast expect to pay about $150.00 per square.
