Not tomato sauce...I was eating a fresh tomato (whole) and the pulp dripped onto my shirt. I washed with regular load of clothes, and there is a reddish/orange stain where the pulp landed....

Rub lestoil (if colorfast) into the stained portion of the fabric. Work it in gently. Let sit for about 10 minutes and then soak in warm water before laundering again.

Another option: If the garment is white, or you have tested it for colorfastness, apply a mild bleaching agent like hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar with a sponge. You can also use lemon juice on white fabrics. Rinse well. Repeat with detergent followed by mild bleaching agent until the stain no longer appears. Sometimes spraying the stain with hairspray works. Keep checking for success before putting in the dryer.

Good luck!

Chances are if you've posted this you don't have any commercial stain sprays, sticks or anything of the sort.. Do not dry the garment.. Rub some full strength detergent on stain and let it sit for a few minutes... Relaunder as usual... The stain should come out.. If it doesn't rub a little dab of dishsoap on the stain and launder again....

Oxyclean!
Normally you want to treat a stain before you wash and dry it, as this can set the stain. But Oxyclean and it's relatives are very good at getting out organic substances.
Spray the spot, let it sit for a minute or two and rub with a wet wash rag. Repeat if necessary.
