Maybe they feel like their dignity has been removed or maybe their mind is so confused they are just taking what they want as if it belonged to them.

I'm assuming you're not a Senior....OK, Boring story: When I was 16 yrs old, I stole a bag of peanuts.. (I was hungry) The next day, I swiped a pair of shoes and left my "ratty" looking shoes on the shelf where the new ones were and wore said shoes out the door. That same week, I went back to the same store and went into the dressing room (with the urging of my 15 yr old girl friend) and put on a sundress under my other clothes. I don't know how they knew but I was caught at the door, put in jail and taken before the judge the next day. This was in Binghamton, NY and I lived in a small town across the PA line. The Judge told me to, "GET OUT OF TOWN and don't come back.!" I was scared and humiliated. NEVER stole again....not even a nickel and I am now 66 years old. Maybe some seniors just haven't had that horrible experience yet. If they HAVE been caught, and still do it, they probably have a medical/mental condition or they have done it all their lives and just don't care.

I worked as a Manager for Sears for several years and can honestly say there was never one incident of a senior shop lifting, there were several everyday however of teenagers and people in their 20's shoplifting. And one women with a little girl who came in every saturday and tried to steal a new dress for the child. Got caught everytime. Her husband was a doctor and we just sent him a bill, it was arranged with the store.

Sorry not one senior and I consider this question offensive and meant to insult seniors and stir up a little trouble here.

The only reason I answered is because I have retail experience which proves this "question" is not true.

I'm sorry..I just don't know any senior citizens that do that..But I'm sure if you answer the question why do teens and young adults shoplift..then you'd have the same answer.

Well, tell me, why should shoplifting only be a passtime of the younger generation?

Or are you trying to say that shoplifting is an offence only committed by 'senior citizens'???

I haven't really noticed this among seniors. I do think when food prices go high and they are on a very limited income they might swipe a can of tuna but trinkets..hmm

Most are on a limited income and feel they may outlive there retirement income, which may not keep up with inflation. Medical is a primary concern, especially prescription medications. There are taxes on there homes, along with utility and food rising prices. Don`t judge a person unless you walk there shoes. Stealing ins`t right, but sometimes it`s necessary to survive.

I'd have to dispute your premise. I know very few people of ANY age that take things that don't belong to them. People who do this, regardless of their age, usually have some sort of problem emotionally; it's definitely not confined to seniors or any other age group.

they shop lift things becouse they know that if they pull that poor old lady face and "aint got any money and dont know what you are talking about".

and they acted all scared so they will have some stupid idiot stick up for them when the elderly person knows that they did wrong.
