My parents have just booked a flight for the three of us to go see my sister in Southampton at xmas and I've been informed by them that I cannot wear boots on the flight. I thought this was a joke but apparently when my sister was visiting last week she was stopped at Edinburgh Airport and told to remove her Caterpillar boots because she could have a device hidden in the thick soles!
I read over the conditions we got with our e-tickets and it seems that this is correct. I usually wear knee high boots in the winter but now I'm going to have to wear shoes or trainers for the flight. Is it just me or is this too much?
I'm not disputing that we all have to be vigilant when travelling but does it really matter if I wear boots or flip flip flops? If someone was determined enough to carry out an act of terrorism such as blowing up a plane surely they would have thought up new ways to hide the devices?
Will the next step be a strip search for everyone or am I just being silly?

I live in Canada but take my fare share of US trips. And in all US airports, EVERYONE takes off their footwear and has to xray them. Ever since the incident where explosives were smuggled on-board in the soles of shoes. I usually try to be ready for security and have shoes that are easily removed and put back on.

But yes, if they are telling you that you can't wear them is excessive. Because they could easily screen them. Sounds like they are being lazy. Especially for winter time travel.

I have worn boots on flights and the only thing is that i have had to take them off and put them through the xray machine. However if your ticket specifically says no boots then dont wear them or do and risk what happens. If you dont like that then dont fly with them again but most of the airlines have the same rules. I have always had to just had them Xrayed and people wear boots to the airport here in germany all the time. And in my opinion i feel safer flying out of Frankfurt then any in the states you go through a lot more Xrays and metal detectors (like 5-6) for international flights.

Blame the guy who tried to blow up a plane with his shoe. If he hadnt done it they would have never come up with that idea

it's a sad world we live in, people cannot go anywhere without be scared of something happening, there was a t.v program on bbc a few months back on about how they could do these acts and they are really frightening,

why do people insist on having to ruin other innocent peoples lives i have no idea, and if its an act of martyrdom or whatever they call it, why don't they just they kill themselves and no one else?

i don't see why they should make you take off your boots like you say they would find new ways if needs be your not being silly i would definitely question it.

there is not any way that airport risk-free practices has long gone too far, and regrettably they probable won't flow far sufficient in the previous something undesirable happens. look at it like this. the regulations and regulations are there to purpose and take care of us. purely think of with regard to the limitless issues that they might do to smash flights. somebody can carry a extensive bag of regardless of into the airport in the previous they even attain the seek element. this is in effortless terms the cost that we are going to ought to pay.

I've heard about that but not in the US. Most airports require you to take your shoes off and place them on the xray belt. sometime you think security has gone a little too far but then you have to think about who and what they are protecting.
