I cannot smell exactly where it is coming from though! Sometimes, I believe it to be coming from the heating vents, that is where the smell seems to be most prominent. My husband says that he cannot open it up and find it because of the way the heating system is connected, he thinks the smell will go away soon without any intervention. He also does not have a very good "sniffer", he dosent smell it in the same places that I do! It is driving me nuts that he wont take care of it! It stinks so bad, and I am pregnant, so this smell is nauseating to me! Please help me, what should I do to find it and eliminate the odor ASAP??!!

If the critter is in the duct-work, you could air out the house, then turn on the furnace fan. If the system has a fresh air only setting, or if a panel can be removed to provide air from outside, block off the return grill, and sniff the room vent. Start at the one closest to the furnace. This would tell you approximately where it is.

Your husband is right. After the hamster dries out, the smell should go away. If all else fails, running the furnace heat for a while will hasten the drying out process.

You might try ventilating the house by blowing air out a window at one end of the house, with an open window at the other. After a while see if the odor is in the room with incoming air.

Check around your furnace filter. Its common for animals to follow the duct work until the come to the end of the run. That would place them near the filter. If you cant find the hamster, just spray the duct with 50% bleach and water mixture.

Oh, that's just horrible. :-\ I sure hope that you get the problem fixed very soon!

Do you happen to have any friends that could help you locate it? Since your husband doesn't seem to think it's a problem, and you get sick from it, it might be best to have someone else try to find it.

If not...I assume that there are authorities that you could call. Even though exterminators are known to actually get rid of animals, I bet that they assist in things like this.

You could always call your local police station and ask them if there's any company/service that could be of help to you, if the exterminator idea is a flop.

Again, good luck to you and your family! >.<

That must be the Hamster that died. If you have an entryway that leads to the heating system, where the air goes in, spray some Febreze in there in great quantities. It eliminates any order and makes the air fresher.

Call someone to clean you ducts... This should be done on an annual basis anyway.. It's good to do for your new arrival to prevent allergies/germs.. Contact SEAR'S or look on Angie's list for someone that may do the job in your area... Some places have whole house specials if you get your carpet cleaned as well or "free carpet cleaning" with duct cleaning etc... If your area gets a town money saver/Valpak or gold clipper magazine it's free with your mail.. Check in their for ads/coupons.. Good luck
