I am considering naming my book "What makes a Prostitute"

What do you think of this name?

Yes the book is non fiction. I will not elaborate further into it. I am just trying to get some opinions on weather or not the title would be worth ruining or making my reputation as a writer.

No, I would not be compelled...

I have read Evelyn Lau's 'Runaway - Diary of A Street Kid.'

So, while I would be interested in reading a book of a similar nature, a book entitled "What Makes A Prostitute?" would not compel me. If possible, I suggest the author use a title that may not make sense immediately, but makes sense after the reader has read into the book and understands the context of the title. Good luck!

It would depend on the content. I don't seek a book because of what it's named and there's been so many books written about prostitutes by prostitutes and/or bordello hostesses.

The whole prostitution writing idea is a bit old hat now, and unless it was a fully accredited, psychologically sound report and explored by experts, I would not be interested.

Probably not, Fawne. The title is long, considering the subject matter, and suggests that the author believes he or she is the one person who understands the complex and widely varied factors which lead to "the life."

More intriguing might be simply "Prostitute" or the less-accepted word (which I think gets beeped here) starting with the letter W. I might pull either of those from the bookstore shelf.

its a title that would get attention--if a publisher picks it up. Is it non-fiction? What would you tell the publisher about your personal experiences that give you the right and education to put this in book form?

Oh, and you wouldn't be the first to come up with the idea.
