I could not agree more with you. A few days ago I asked a question on the site about where there are so many nasty and malicious comments being made about the family when they are suffering such a tragedy. I got some decent responses from people who agreed with me, and some respectable responses from people who thought the McCanns might be guilty, but were expressing their opinions in a perfectly acceptable way. I then had a load of really aggressive and unpleasant responses, pathetic jokes about the poor family and comments about how stupid I was to think that they might be innocent. I was really surprised at just how many people write nasty stuff, and found it pretty sad that there are such a large number of heartless people. Yes, they might have done it, but they also might not, and I for one am just feeling incredibly sorry for the family and the poor girl and will leave it at that until a conclusion in this case has been reached.
I think some of the people who are using the forum to use foul language and sick jokes at the expense of this poor girl should have complaints against them. When they come up in response to this question (which we sadly know they will) I urge you all to click on 'report'. Thanks.

Probably becaue as you say "People are allowed to express an oppinion"
However, that is not what is happening here.
Very few, if any, people are coming on here and saying, "I think they are guilty" or "I think they are innocent".
Nothing wrong with those statements.
What is happening is that people are coming on here, linking to this bit of rumour or that bit of insinuendo and hopng to affect the views of others in their need to belong to a clan.
No One!, I'll repeat that again NO ONE!, at this present time has any hard evidence and facts about whether the McCanns are guilty or innocent, except "Perhaps" the Portuguese Police.
So no problem with an expression of guilt either way, but please, are you all really numb enough to believe that you know what has happened.
The truth is (I'll let this little secret out but dont tell anyone),
You, nor anyone else, at this moment in time, knows what happend to Maddeline McCann, except the guilty person.
The "Reliable sources" and "Sources close to the investigaton" and press informers and witnesses add up to Jack Sh!t.
Those of us who sit on the fence waiting for something official to happen can look in ammusement at the antics of the anti's and pro's squabbling over the right to be right when neither know who is right to start with.
Here are the facts, once again about the case, this is the Official information which has been placed in the public domain by the investigating police force.
A child has gone missing.
Certain DNA samples have been found at various locations.
There are three Aguido's in the case,Rober Murrat and Kate and Gerry McCann.
All three Aguido's have been interviewed at length
The McCanns have been allowed to return to the Uk after given identity and contact information to the PJ.
There is no trace as to the whereabouts of the child that disappeared.
That's it people, that's all there is to base your opinion on, everything else is just supposition.
So play your little games of tit for tat, only dont come back on here wondering why the other side are getting a bit uppity about your particular stance on the case.

Using foul language usually tells more about the person using it than about the intended subject.
I, too, wonder about such comments. How come some of us think they know more than anybody else in the world about the McCanns?
Could it be that we are jealous because this family shows us initiative, endurance, compassion and we dislike it because we are reminded how little effort WE put into things?
Or could it be that we, in a strange, odd way, are jealous about the attention this poor family is getting?
I would say, let us pretend we were in their situation, how would we want to be treated? Let's treat them in the same way.

Well, with the Yahoo TOS and being a corporate domain/server... rules are rules. Rarely ever does the doctrine 'freedom of speech' exist, except on privately rented/owned servers.
A perfect case example is imdb.com, which is owned by Amazon, employs moderators to scour the endless boards to strictly conform posting with it's TOS. No one is exempt from the rules at the front door. I suppose it's really enforced for the protection and respect of younger folk that use the site. The life cycle of membership can be short. Like always, not everything gets reported or the moderators can't catch up. Also, banning is relatively easy to get around.
It's the Internet, you have to take it all in with a grain of salt.

People resort to this when they cannot express a valid or intelligent opinion, surely if they could they would have enough substance to their answer without being aggressive of hateful. I usually ignore these people though, if I am prepared to give a fair and objective opinion then other people should too, unfortunately many people take the whole 'freedom of speech' thing too far.

No, it's not okay.
I've probably resorted to unpleasantness here and there out of sheer frustration with the pig-headedness of certain posters, but I don't think foul language, aggressive (and ill concieved) rants and so-called jokes are okay at all. It's not funny and it's not some kind of point scoring game either.
They get away with it if no-one reports them. The report flag is there for you to use if you feel that what someone is saying is out of order. Read the community guidelines to see what is consdered out of order by Y!A http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php

I agree. Despite what we all think on this investigation, there is NO need for abuse and foul language.
I think its getting to a lot of people. Some people are getting overexcited over it and dramatic.
And the people making the jokes are sick. There is no need to stoop so low about a poor little tot who has gone missing.
People are getting overexcited about all this, but i think its out of irritation because its going on for so long. Everyone wants to see a conclusion to this terrible event.

Foul language is always because the person concerned has a limited vocabulary - down to school curriculum and not teaching our beautiful English language as it should be taught. Even so, have you noticed that whatever words are used, some people just can't spell anyway. This goes for all subjects, not just the McCann saga.

There is a thing called freedom of speech, which I accept. However, I hate the nastiness and abuse that people on this site (myself included) have been subjected to in the last few months. I have said it many times and I will say it again, it is totally unnecessary and is doing nothing at all to help poor Madeleine!

Some people take things to heart.....and feel so outraged by comments that they just have to spill their own venom.
The "foul language" thing....well, to some people it's an every day word....you have to accept that not everyone has a good command of the english language, and so, express themselves in the best way they know.
Q&A is great, but boy, it can be a pain in the seat sometimes.
