I wanted to know will the signal strength be strong enough for the PC to work considering the distance is so much.

At 100mps the limit is 100 metres without a booster. So it should be okay.

Properly run CAT5e unshielded cable is considered suitable at distances of up to 100 meters. Properly run is the key. Keep it from radio frequency (rf) interferences (motors, fluorscent lights, magnetic sources, spot weld equipment, etc) by at least 3 ft.

If you remain concerned, you can use CAT5e shielded cable provided you properly install it and this will minimize interference.

The 85 meter distance is not the issue; the issue is interference. If you do not have rf interference you do not need shielding.

Remember the 100 meters is the cable length from end to end.

Well its possible to connect it at this distance but what are you planning on doing to wire it all together???

Are your planning on just running a massive a** cable across from end to end which could open you up to emi(electric magnetic interference)??

I would suggest to do this do the following

Make sure that your 85 metres distance includes patch cabling(If any) as 100m although it is the *recommended maximum* doesn't mean squat because their is alotta variables.

Set say 5 metres of it from each end as unsheilded twisted pair(udp) and then wire up from them points Sheilded twisted pair(STP) So esentially you'd have something like this

Its up to you wether you wish to use this method but to get some reliability go for sheilded over the longer distance

Use number 6 wire instead of number 5, but 85 meter is not too long, the signal strength still high and you still have hi-speed than wireless connection

Cat5e Ethernet cable is certified for 100 meters TOTAL. If your measurement is exact, you should be ok. Remember that if you are adding patch cables to the ends, those count towards your total of 100 meters.
