Please don't kill them! I have these spiders coming into the house, and I always put them back outside!!! If I didn't then my cat would catch them, torture them and then kill them (which I think is very cruel!!!)........you kill one, and then their 'posse' will come looking for you!!!!! (ha ha)

It's not their fault they've come indoors........maybe they just want to watch a bit of telly or check out your decor for a while before getting on with their little spider lives................!!!!

Malthus looked at human populations and worked out that if the population were to remain stable, the number of deaths had to equal the number of births over a period of time. If the number of births exceeds the number of deaths, the population goes up. If the number of deaths exceeds the number of births, the population goes down.

Wallace and Darwin read Malthus and this led to the development of ideas around evolution, with some species surviving at the expense of others.

With spiders, a female can produce many eggs and only two baby spiders need to survive to adulthood to replace the parents. As spiders are quite often high up in the food chain in a house (not many birds and other larger predators can get into houses), there is a good chance of a few babies becoming adults. I would have thought there is little chance of big house spiders becoming extinct.

Please note that there are endangered spiders, especially some of the big bird-eating spiders, which are being captured for the pet trade.

Massive Spiders! How big are they?
If you only kill the ones in the house, they won't go extinct.

The majority of "massive " spiders coming into your house at this time of year are Males of the Tegenaria genus looking for females. So if you kill them you are generally only reducing the male/female ratio in your area. Those males who find and mate with females out of your house will manage to repopulate your area quite easily.

species include;
domestica, bog standard house spider.

Duelliica aka Gigantea, much larger and the fastest running true spider in th world.

Parientina, the Cardinal spider one of the biggest (T.atrica is larger) well known for scaring the B'Jesus out of Cardinal Woolsey down in London (southern nancy)

Agrestis, The Hobo spider only one rumoured to have a bite slightly dangerous to humans. (you won't get these in your house if you leave Duellicca aka Gigantea to roam free, they like Agrestis for breakfast)

It's pretty unlikely. Some estimates claim there are as many as 1 million spiders per acre of grassland, so it doesn't seem probable that they're all coming into our houses.

No , more and more will come, looking for the ones you have killed, nature makes them lay more eggs to compensate any losses. Insects and spiders will never become extinct.
