Can we humans ever discover the truth about our lives, or is our search only a pointless quest (like Don Quixote's for example) for the impossible dream? Is there "a truth"? And if the quest is pointless, should we simply give it up?

My oh my, you have been pondering this last week it seems,
The joy of self discovery is endless, there is always a blind spot worth the search. The longer the search, I find nothing is
orginal, Deep thoughts of worth are just phrased in differant forms of the author. And the most of them can be traced back to the bible, especially Shakespeare.

"When we search for truth wheater we know it or not we search for God."
That works for me, but it may not for others, we all have our own truth in our own time. What one thinks today they may not think tommorow, or the next moment. Depending on change
or a new discovery of self or others. So to keep an open mind
and know I shall never have all the answers, nor do I want them! as life would be a bore! But one needs a foundation,
for me that is my faith, the God of my understanding, that has to stay firm for me to keep going, inspite of myself!
I donot look for an, "Impossible Dream" I only look for
Another open door, Another lite bulb to go on, and try not to take my self to serious, to keep it simple and enjoy what comes my way. why struggle? it zaps energy. Enjoy the
puzzle of the journey, as all did before us, now, and those to come.
"There are more things in heaven and earth Horato then are
dreamt of your philosophy." (Hamlet)

Chapter/ Book 7 of the Republic. There is a huge literature on this, so you must find a decent library and read up on a few interpretations of it.

As an interpretation or study in the meaning of the self, Plato uses the example of a group that live in a cave and only see (experience) the world thorough the shadows cast from the fire on the wall. Thus, they see the shadow as being real but have no understanding of what causes the shadow. When they are shown what causes the shadows, they learn what is in the world and they become enlightened and having become enlightened, they can never return to ignorance.

It is a fairly short piece but is much discussed. One area that I find disturbing about Platonic and Aristotelean writing is that it dictates what is good and what is bad (correct and incorrect) behavior, whilst claiming to be debating these issues (Socrates was a little less dictatorial).

the cave allegorywas that if , should you be so inclined to do so,
you chained up infants in a cave, so that they only see shadows on the walls
and you then release them and show them the real world, beyond shadows,
they will experience roughly the same thing that we do when we die.
however, i utterly abhore this belief,
why deny the eauty and reality of this world for the wonders of an idle afterlife?

if life is nothing and is just for living and we die blah! then we shouldnt have been born

i think

and lets say life is just about that then why do we have to be happy, sad, confused, depressed, challenged..ya get the point be with certain people meet people

for we are all connected and when one dies, everybody is affected.. that is at leat i think so lol

and if people are affected with other people that they dont even know i just cant help but think that theres more to life than living blah

with plato's cave allegory...that we are bound to saty in darkness forever (im sorry im not really sure what it is for i slept when we watched the movie lol)

i think we already know the truth..orr still discovering more thruths. but then they could all be lies but whatever. haha

ouch my brain hurts.

I am a puppeteer, not some shadowy figure. I can conceptualize the reality of my perceptions. Oh, pardon me. I've got sagacity. Who said those burritos were not real?
