Team McCann informed the press beforehand of their departure thereby ensuring maximum coverage of their journey home. They were literally followed the whole way by hoards of journalists and photographers. So we had pictures of Gerry looking distraught on the plane, then the "emotive speech" where he appeared to break down (for the first time since his daughters disappearance I might add). Then the homecoming to their house without Madeleine etc etc. For a couple who want to keep the twins out of this circus it seems a strange way to go about it as they must have wondered what on earth was going on. This journey home was a shameless PR excercise by team McCann to get people to feel sorry for them and to get the ball rolling in the McCanns as helpless victims of PJ incompetence bandwagon.

Only one reason and we've seen it from the beginning. They love to be treated like celebs, to make speeches surrounded by microphones, to be received like heroes for their supporters. They love that and they make the best of it.

Can you imagine if they hadnt informed the press.Everyone would be saying they sneaked back to England so they must be guilty. The press would have followed them anyway then said that theyre on the run or something ludicrous like that, and loads of people would have believed that and started asking why they hadnt informed the media.
Despite what a lot of people think, their daughter is missing still so they need the press.

yeah, and why use EasyJet to come home? Surely an airline that offers a little more privacy........ however on balance look at the fact that this actin has ensured that the case is kept in the public ey and might cause someone to come forward with important information, or, maybe just shameless *&%$

They were discusing this on gm tv this mornning, they had one chap on there and he had an answer for every question asked but when he was asked for proof he said he had none and it was just his opinion. He was defending the Mc canns to the hilt and intimated that if the social services over here got involved about the neglect shown by the Mc canns leaving infants alone to go out drinking that it would be another burden on them. what about the hundreds of "common" perople who have had their children taken into care for this reason. Will they be able to appeal citing the Mc canns as a pressident.?

Well, if they hadn't told the press, they'd have missed out on all that free publicity. Don't forget, this is now little to do with the case of a missing child, just a media exercise! ! !

I disagree.
I think they came home for the sake of their safety and that of the twins. Most of the Portuguese are against them and are assuming their guilt.
I am keeping an open mind but if I were them then I'd have returned home to the UK too.
What's left for them in Portugal apart from police that are trying to frame them!?
I believe the emotion shown by Gerry was real. I agree that I have been shocked by their apparent lack of emotion but people do react differently. And what happened behind closed windows? I suspect that as Doctors they have to keep composed so they probably let their feelings go once they are alone.
I feel they have done wrong leaving Madelaine alone but they have now admitted they were wrong. And now the nightmare for them continues.
I believe there is something odd about this case but i don't believe they killed her on purpose or by accident.

They've been playing this game from the beginning, with their 'campaign', carefully designed to get public opinion on their side by portraying them as victims. Most people saw right through them from day one though. They're terrible actors.

that justine woman was behind it. her voice grates on me like a rasp, she wanted them to do a photo shoot at an orphanage for goodness sake. this lady is out to look good for a bunk up her career ladder. unfortunately she's more like a chocolate teapot....runny and useless.
