I don't think so! Some women are superstitious in the first 3mths as this is the 'danger' period and miscarriages are more likely then but anywhere from then onwards should be fine.
A lot of mothers have baby showers and receive gifts before baby is born and I don't think any of those would say its bad luck...they're happy to get the stuff!! I did!!!
just wait till mum-to-be is 12wks+ and then give gifts!

It's only bad luck if you believe that luck has anything today with it.
Personally, I don't buy into bad luck, so I think it's perfectly reasonable to buy gifts as long - I would just wait until (a) the mum is out of the "danger" period of the first trimester, or (b) until they've had the second scan which shows any abnormalities.

No, it's quite common to have baby showers these day's whereby the mother is given many presents for her unborn baby. I have heard it is bad luck to buy the pram before the baby is born, but isn't that silly superstition? Well it didn't do our kid's any harm, and our youngest is now 25. Good luck.

No hun but i believe in the superstition that it is bad luck to have the cot, pram and moses basket in your house before baby is born,im 37 weeks pregnant and i have all of that kept at my mum's house until after baby is born,i have everything else at home though,it depends on whether you believe in superstitions or not.

It is more superstition. My wife and I are Jewish and in Judaism we believe that it is bad luck to prepare for the babies arrival before the baby is born. However, my in-laws insisted on a baby shower and we have a perfectly healthy happy eight month old girl.

I'd say it was good luck because then the mum to be wont end up buying all the same stuff as the gift givers.

In the US, expectant mothers are given "Baby Showers", where her friends and family shower her with gifts for her unborn baby. It's such an accepted custom here that I think it would be hard to find an American that thinks it's bad luck.

I don't think so! I had a baby shower before my daughter was born.
But a girlfriend of mine is Jewish and part of the Jewish tradition is not to open the gifts until after the baby is born.

It's not bad luck at all.....like the other person said, that's just superstition. Just wait 'till they are in their third trimester at least ( 8 or 9 months) or if they have a baby shower you can give it to them then.
