I thought she looked in an absolutely appalling state when the girl first disappeared. It is 4 months since it happened: you can't expect her to be wailing, screaming and looking totally distraught all that length of time. People react to situations in different ways - and remember, we have only seen the public view. We don't know what she has been like away from the cameras.

I find it hard to believe that she could hold her head up high and look anyone in the eye after leaving her babies alone while she socialised in a foreign country.. it just beggars belief than an educated professional couple could be so irresponsible.. That said, they are professionals who are trainied and used to keeping their emotions under control in the face of human suffering, and they do appearto have a strong faith which may help keep them strong. I do, however personally feel that they have something more to do with her disappearance than simple irresponsibility... As is the case in a high volume of murder cases. Who else could have removed Madeleine from her room without alarming her siblings?? I hope I am wrong, I really do, but had she have shown a tiny bit of emotion in front of the cameras I may have a little more compassion for her..

ScaryMary is sooo right.
The lynch-mob would have then accused her of "putting on a show for sympathy"...or some such cruel jibe like that.
As it is, shes kept it all in, in an attempt to hold herself together for the sake of the investigation & for the sake of her twins. Any strong woman knows that you cannot just fall apart even when you're breaking inside.
Even the most vociferous of the antis must admit tho' the toll it has taken on her physical appearance. No matter how much & how well she has tried to put on a brave front, she looks drawn & haunted & on the brink of a breakdown.
Her heart is stronger than her body..

Well I have thought them to be responsible since the beginning because many fishy things didnt add up but the emotion thing didnt phase me. I am not one to show my emotions although I would have a hard time holding it in in this case. But Faith said she looks drawn tired etc. I agree she does but that could be grief of course but also guilt. She may be worn down because she knows something and can't sleep. Even if Madeleine did die accidentally because her parents left her alone I am sure the parents still feel grief but still doesnt make it right. I guess however for me I don't understand how nobody finds it odd that Gerry has not shed a tear on camera or shown much emotion up until now. Up until he becomes a suspect. I find it very very stranger behaviour and I think it makes him look selfish. His daughter didn't deserve tears in the beginning but now he has tears for himself.

It is well known that the police use appeals to study body language to determine a persons reactions.Look at the huge difference in feeling for the parents of rhys jones they came accross as parents that were totally devastated and itwas all natural no playing up for thecamera(it felt genuine).Compare this to the McCanns ,a lot of people just got the feeling that something was amiss (including the police obviously)

It is easy to criticise a person's reaction in a very sad case such as this. No one should be labelled guilty by the public/press until a jury in a Court of Law with all the facts find them so.

Not necessarily 'wailing and hysterical', but some flicker of emotion from either of them would have helped. I cannot understand how they can be so calm on camera talking about it, when it's their little girl missing - possibly hurt, possibly dead, possibly undergoing hell on earth. I would be incapable of keeping so emotionless and calm.
You'd think they'd had their luggage stolen on holiday, not their child.

that and the way they've handled themselves. and i do not mean over dramatic but a little more emotion would have been good. now that they are suspects, the tears are flowing uncontrollably....does no make sense.
kate's stressed out look could be the weight of what she knows and the guilt of her actions.

No. The public started turning on her long after that first initial public appearance.
