It's a privilege, but a desire that probably begins even in the mother's womb... a desire for that place of safety and comfort the womb provided.
So we look for that safety and comfort again by loving people and hopefully having them love us in return. It's what makes the world go 'round, really, for everybody too, except the cold people who only want possessions, and who unfortunately are often in positions of power.

because to me love is better then ignorance and hatred.

I believe that people just wish to think that there is more, something powerfull that leads us all, in believing this they can put all of their guilt aside in convincing themself they did it out of love.
