Is this not like for an ocean in a shallow pond?

Maybe there is depth of meaning to be found, but it may be frightening, so it's easier to be smug and stay within the familiar.

If one could become as small as an electron, then there is an ocean in a shallow pond and endless unplumbed depths of meaning to be found, no matter where.
