I have-
I get a feeling of pressure on my chest-
I can't move a muscle or even speak-
It's like being fully paralyzed,
Total loss of control over your own body-
It's terrifying-
I don't know what it is, and I can't explain it.
Some say it's being on the edge of asleep, and awake
What I never understood, is why I can't move at all
and why it feels like someone is sitting on me.
It's only happened to me three times- the first time when I was about nine years old, and twice since.
It has only happened while I was in prayer-
I don't know that it will happen again-
then again I don't know that it won't.
I won't permit myself to live in fear of what I don't understand.

Scientists will always have a rational explanation for that which is not so rational. (Night Terrors)

What do you think it is?

It is not paranormal. Anyone who has lived any time at all has experienced this or something similar at times. It could be sleep paralysis like another answerer said but more then likely it is your mind playing tricks on you. Don't be too quick to call it a ghost. Most apparitions seen right after waking up is normal and not ghostly. Often we aren't actually awake and still in dream mode.

Now if you wake up and see someone and they stay until you are fully awake and even talk to you then vanish, I would then say you possibly saw a ghost.

I have heard of this a lot and had a boyfriend that did it almost nightly. I "HEAR" it is Astro Projection. The person you feel is really your own self. The reason you can't move is because your spirit has not fully gotten back in your body. After a year with doing this my ex-boyfriend looked into this. This is one answer we got. The other answer we got was Sleep Paralysis. This to will cause you to see, feel, and hear somthing else in the room. He takes medication now for Sleep Paralysis and it helps him. Although he still has it from time to time. Look them up. I hope this helps.

Hi..
Yes, it happened to me....just a bit different.
It was like a deep silence in the room and I was like you, unable to move.
Once every few nights...for a few weeks I had this thing....only late at night....it scared me for the rest of my life to be honest.

I don't know but it always stopped if I started to pray...maybe it was just a coincidence....but after that I started going more often to the church.....and in a few weeks it stopped.
It might be just a superstition but it is said that between midnight and 4am the bad spirits find their way on the earth....and in people's houses.....
Now, after 4-5 years I can't sleep alone or without a light on.

My mum had a similar experience...one night she couldn't move and she said she felt like something was crawling on her from the feet up to her neck....

Many people think is the mind playing tricks on you....if so...why it never happened again in the last few years??

I think what it is your describing is sleep paralysis. Ive suffered from it since I was seven. I usually get it after ive woken from a nightmare. I dont think theres a medical diagnosis for it, Ive not told alot of people what I have, alot of people dont understand. I know its scary and I dont have an explanation for it but its happened to me hundreds of times and i've never been physically hurt, I'd say dont worry but its easier said then done. Also, do you always get it when you are sleeping in a certain position? I always get it when I'm sleeping on my back so I tend not to intentionally lay on my back. I hope this has helped.

sounds like sleep paralysis. i used to get it but not any more. the 1st time was SO scary, even the next times were pretty scary too, even though i knew what it was. you are in a kind of inbetween state, not quite awake, not quite asleep, so youre aware of yourself but cant move. why the terror i dont know. im sure you can look it up and find out some more, but rest assured its nothing to worry about and youll probably grow out of it at some point.

This is a common occurence. A similar phenonmenon has been documented hundreds of years ago showing illustrations where a little horned demon is shown sitting on the chest and keeping you pinned down. In reality it could just be that even though you think you are awake, you are in fact still asleep. This is called lucid dreaming.

There is a medical term and theory. But I think that its when your mind wakes up before your body and possibly before your soul as got back into your body completely so its perhaps the fact that are own soul is behind or over us that is so scary as we wouldn't know what that feels like, the sense of impending danger could be the danger of our soul not been able to return to our body but more likely just the fact that we don't usually experience our empty shell before we die and are not used to being so inanimate with no choice in the matter. I count myself lucky that it as only ever happened to me three times I sort of just manage to force myself to move to jump start myself even I think thats when body mind and soul are one again.

used to get that a lot, in different houses and flats. read about it, it's a sleep disorder called a hypnogogic image. it can be a strong feeling, a sound, or a vision. all very alarming at the time. don't know how to stop it, with me it just stopped of it's own accord. it is just an illusion, however scary it can seem.

Ghostbusters ..... thats who you need to call.

No no, to be honest I think it is just the human mind playing tricks on you, if you believe in the afterlife etc etc, then I always think that you are more open to things happening to you. The mind is more powerful then any computer so I believe it has the power to make you believe in something that isn't really there.

Oh if there is someone there, put the house up for sale and let someone else deal with the problem.
