The only way to be rid of them is by pulling them out getting the roots. If you just chop them down, they will come back.

Cut them right back to the ground (and keep it mown but not too short), then apply brushwood killer or Roundup (or similar), which is a systemic herbicide and kills the whole plant including the roots, to each plant that grows new shoots. The new shoots are important because, with Roundup, the plant needs to try to photosynthesise in order to die. You may need to make two or three applications during the year but the next year the problem will be mostly gone.
Keep the blackberries under control by pruning. They spread by rooting the tips of the long branches. They don't tend to spread by creeping roots like some other noxious weeds, so just controlling those long, reaching branches will do it. (Like others, I am hoping that you don't want to get rid of them altogether ... just control them!)
Note: Roundup will kill everything it touches, so local application to each small plant is best. It is, however, very effective and the most eco-friendly solution, since it is harmless to humans and most pets (not fish ... but I guess you don't keep guppies in your blackberry patch!) and it breaks down into completely inactive components.

Oh,why would you want to destroy them? They are a valuable source of food for many species of birds! Or,you could even let people pick them! I have black raspberries all over the place, and I just trim them back when they get out of hand.I just love all the birds they bring! if you really want to get rid of them, though,I think cutting them way back and then doing a contolled burn would do it.

You cut them off at the base, and use either Amitrole, or woody weedkiller.Check with your local garden center for the right product for your part of the world.

You can keep them mowed and the roots will eventually (rather soon, actually) starve. You can put goats on them and they will keep them eaten down. You can spray them with a 2,4-D or 2,4, 5-T type spray that kills broad-leafed (dicotyledonous) plants.
